Is your heating ON or OFF?

I put my heating for approx 90 mins last night the house was cold and it made a difference I have to admit but I do worry about the cost but the only good thing is where I usually only heat the water at least it was doing both...
I hate being on such a tight budget but it ain't ever going to change and is to get worse. Need someone to write me into their will or win the lottery...not likey.
If I could work wages are so low(and being single without a second wage coming in money has to stretch further?)and if you are on basic benefits you struggle too.
It's difficult for most of us I guess...hope I can keep the CH off today...it's funny having access to heating and trying to do the opposite by not using it!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

My little one had a sleepover with her friends last night. I gave them my mattress so they could all sleep together. DH has moved it back into our room and found it's soaking. DD says someone spilt their drink and she didn't think to tell me.
So, the heating is on to try to dry my mattress. We're swealtering in here!0 -

Well, around here most houses are in darkness or bedroom lights are on quite early so I suspect many are thinking why sit up and have the heating on when you can hopefully be warmer in bed and either sleep or listen to the radio, watch TV or read a book in bed. For many though there isn't even much on the TV to stay up for.
I've also said elsewhere how dead my town is and the neighbouring towns. Things are pretty dire."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Exactly popperwell, even wheni am working things are tight as i only have one wage coming in (although i am not sure if the single persons TCs make up for that- my guess is a resounding NO!), and now i am on benefits (JSA) things are tighter than tight..i simply cant afford to put the heating on unless absoloutley necessary.0 -
Starting to feel a bit chilly in the day here. Although in the evening yesterday I was boiling! I guess that's what I get for having my laptop on my lap :rotfl: I also felt a bit chilly in bed. Should be fine with hoodies and hot water bottles for a bit0

Cold here in London (I know, the Scots and Northern OSers among us here will laugh me off as a Southern Softie :rotfl:) so last night we lit the woodstove for the first time in the season.
I am resisting the idea of putting the central heating on, our usual agreed date (with strong resistance - in vain I must add - from DD and DS!) is 1st November. Last year it was very easy, we nearly met the target, only had a few shots of heat in the last days of October because the Autumn was so mild! So far, if the Autumn continues like Summer did, we might have to move the date to an earlier day!
I don't want to suffer but likewise don't want to give in and switch on if I can remedy the cold with a bit of wood in the stove (we have plently for this winter) and an extra wooly, including blankets in the living room for evening tv watching. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

As a Scot I'm saying nothing.:rotfl::rotfl:However last night we closed the bedroom windows as its getting a bit chilly and will soon put the heavy quilt on the bed.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Well, I'm looking into having a lodger next year if anyone wants to stay here and can stand me...it's the only way...if I am allowed and I undertand that is possible even in a rented HA property.
I laugh when governments and the utility/charities say put the heating on and hang the costs as you must stay warm especially if you have long term health conditions, yeah right!
It's not just pensioners struggling...lets be honest most people are to a lesser/greater amount.
At least even on one wage if you have a few members of a family you all share the heat/light but I guess they suffer in having to try and make food stretch between more people, buying clothes and other things for their children etc...but perhaps they are able to get a little more help from the state though with this lot that is not a definate and if it is now, it won't be much longer...We're all doomed!:p
Wishing you well...
I was chilly in bed too smoosh.
Funnily enough I find the coldest time between 8pm-midnight and then it seems to warm up as we go through the night..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Just a quick tip for everyone who doesn't already do this: if you have a tiny house like i do, when you have finished cooking dinner in the oven, and have turned it off, leave the oven door open, and all the lovely heat spreads out and into the kitchen (and front room too, in my teeny house!). I have started doing this and it gives a 30min edge off the cold!
Doesn't matter that all my washing (and whole house!!) smells of smoked haddock after that0 -
Possession wrote: »Still off here, although DH has just said he might put it on - I said no! The winter duvets are going on today, and we have plenty of blankets for sofa snuggling. I work from home and spend a lot of time sat at my computer so I have considered buying those USB fingerless gloves - might have to if I get too cold. My target is to last through to November without the heating, but I won't do it if we get too miserable.
both my daughter and i have those usb heated gloves, mine are neoprene hers are more fleecy/wooly both work well though, i think i will splurge and get myself a fleecy pair as the neoprene ones are a bit stiff and make working at my computer difficult, i lose quite a bit of fine motor control which isn't good because i'm a graphic artist :rotfl:
i've tested both of the storage heaters we use, each on a different evening (well timed for it being particularly cold!) and they are working fine, phew! however the heat is now off and will stay off as long as i can manage it as the two of us love layering up in fleeces, our fleece dressing gowns, slipper boots and sitting with blankets over our laps anyway
the neighbour downstairs has definitely had hers on because despite it being 1C overnight last night it was 19.5C in the flat at 8am when it said it was about 3C outside! she seems to have a bad cough right now so she probably has her heat up right now, not that i'm complaining!
tomorrow we're going to do our bubblewrapping already fleece lined the curtains, also going to put our foam draught excluder in the warped wood framed windows, i figure that should keep us at least til mid october unless we have a very long cold spell during the day, right now the days are reasonable it's just the nighttime lows that are so cold!0
