Oh well heater is definitely broke so my heating is off again and it's cold... after googling it I think the PCB power supply unit has gone, that's £40 ish on it's own plus rip off electrician fees - just don't have the cash for a repair like that whilst on JSA!
  • Kirri, do you rent or own your property? Do you have a British Heart Foundation shop near you? I know they have several that sell only furniture and electrical appliances, so maybe you can find a replacement heater in one? Or maybe, for less than the £40-quid plus the electrician you could get a cheap fan-heater from somewhere like Argos

I own my place - can't recall BHF shop like that round here, might be though but not in my local town - however I'm wondering whether to just pay out the money as this is the only storage heater for the whole flat. I do have a small panel heater in the bedroom area I haven't used and could do but my bedroom is too small to sit in literally so I haven't had that on this winter and I have a small semi working fan heater but it won't stay on properly either!! I could replace that though but no idea how much electric they use in comparison to the storage heater?? - but do I just pay out and get the heater fixed, I have access to credit so it's not a problem I cannot get access to pay for an emergency thing as such, I just didn't want to incur more debt until I am working. I'll speak to Dimplex and see how much the engineers charge..

Kirri, i would try heating your Bedroom at least.

I have lit the woodburner, but the draught in the sitting room feels awful today. I think i might close the shutters, but it seems a bit grim to be in the dark when its so pretty outside.

strangely, it's colder in my house than it is outside.

getting into bed with the heating having been off for hours is starting to lose it's novelty. i think it may be time to invest in a hot water bottle.

My hot water bottle has been my best buy this winter!! Get one with a cover on and they keep hot till the next day :D
  • have heat on in the morning but dread it when it goes off. It is a really biting cold day here and even with the heating on my flat just does not feel warm.

Have recently gone part time at work now wishing I was still there as it is so warm in my office. arrhhh horrible weather

Its off after the shock of the predicted £95.00 bill last night!

Will be on for an hour in the morning and an hour at night from now on! Considering going to my Mum's for the next two days to use her heating whilst she is on holiday!!!!

  • Central heating is off, but has been on for 2hrs from 7 to 9am which is longer than usual. We have the woodburner going in the kitchen/diner and the little oil radiator in the study and its actually quite toasty.

I had to go to the docs for something routine yesterday and she asked to take my blood pressure. I couldnt push my sleeve up because I was wearing too many layers so had to strip off. I was a bit embarrassed to be wearing a long sleeved t-shirt, a thin jumper, a slightly thicker jumper and a fleece. Even worse I started babbling on about how I spend most of my time at home and dont like using the heating too much.

We were doing OK for heating oil and this really cold weather isnt supposed to last too long so fingers crossed.
