My heating is a bit noisy, so it is on in the mornings and evenings, about seven hours in total. That keeps the house warm enough for the rest of the day.
  • 4 deg here - has been a max of 5.8 deg today ...... brrrrrrr

    Snow forecast for tomorrow.

Heating put itself on earlier today (set at a min temp of 14 deg) brrrrrr

Feel a defrosting bath coming on very shortly, followed by fleecy pj's for the rest of the evening!

In PJs now with socks (of course) heating still only coming on for an hour in morning and an hour around 4pm. All snuggled in lounge with loads of candles, blankets and a new DVD to watch later. Might add a hot water bottle or two later if need be.

I've got my candles burning in the living room too this evening, and its so warm with them going that I've just gone and turned down the heating.
my heating isn't on in the mornings, I don't think its cold enough yet. But in the evening I like to be warm, so my heating thermostat usually kickis in at 18 degrees.

My parents got a bottle of gas for their portable gas fire yesterday. The first time this winter. It costs £1 for them to get it delivered and connected. This year it has went up about £7 since earlier this year! It's now £32.50 inc. delivery.

They don't use the fire all the time but only to heat up the kitchen quickly if the heating hasn't been on.

We normally buy some too for the fire in the kitchen but haven't done so yet, as the house has been warmer since getting the loft insulated. But the last couple of days the kitchen has been a lot colder - 15C with the heating on. We have a lot of air vents in there. The boiler is in a cupboard and needs quite a big vent. A couple of nights ago the door was blowing open as it was so windy! The previous owners also put on an extension about 25 years ago and they put in loads of vents which are under the floorboards. Inside of the kitchen cupboards are freezing. Honestly, there would be no need for a fridge in this weather! So depending on which direction the wind is blowing, it's still cold in there.

    Ours is on!

The wind is still really strong and its quite scary outside now, things are being blown around all over the place and its howling down the chimney:eek:

According to the weather forecast we may get some snow next week with the chances increasing towards the middle of the week, glad my winter tyres are on the car! I must remember to put the shovel in there too as i`ve got a head like a sieve lately.

Its 4 degrees outside and 18 inside atm and it will be snuggly electric blanket time for me soon:D

    I've been Money Tipped!
Because we're having a quiet evening after a days work we have lit the woodburner again. In fact, today, cleaning out a room for builders to start in on Monday we sorted out a few fires worth of junk wood. :)
  • Thought I'd better light the boiler just to make sure it still works. Tested both gas fires too. 5 minutes each then all off until it gets really cold. Prewarming my bed with a hot water bottle though as it's 9 degrees C in the bedroom. Getting away with about 1 unit per week on the gas meter and 30 units on the electric meter, so not complaining too much!

My heating has been off since 9.30pm. I'm away to fill a hot water bottle for my bed. The wind is biting tonight. We had our first snow (it only lay about 5 minutes though :o ) but the wind is really wild.

This is the coldest i've been for a long time!
