Has anybody who is frugal with heating the house noticed that sometimes when they go outside they notice that they are walking from cold into warm air.

I notice it sometimes when the weather takes a turn for the better. I noticed it today slightly. On other ocassions it is very noticeable. On a few ocassions when this has happened I have have opened all the windows to heat the house up!!!

I have lots on insulation in the house and I suppose it can keep the heat out as easily as it can keep it in.

Sad I know but I have started a spreadsheet and |I am taking readings every 2 days at the same time. So far my av usage for gas is £1 a day and elec £2.50. How does that compare with everyone else? We have a 3 bed house, with 2 teenagers, and the gas central H is on for 2 hours a day.

:eek: I just know that i`m going to end up doing this now, might not be ale to stick to exactly the same time of day but within an hour or two:D

Should be interesting, i`ll take a reading each day and set an alarm on my moby to remind me to do it. I`ll be interested to see how it varies. See how long i can keep it up.

May start next week, hopefully earlier but can`t see me being able to sit down and sort it out just yet.

Our house is pretty cool anyway so I only really notice that in the really hot weather. What I am noticing, is that with the heating off at home during the day and being well wrapped up for winter, when I go to work in school I absolutely swelter. I am usually glad to get outside into the playground for some fresh air.

I have a cold house too atm, and it has been warmer out side. It will be rectified in the future, and the virtue is its never too hot in summer.

No heating to day but I thought about hiring a carpet cleaner to make the most of the weekend which is supposed to be milder and fair, but I've managed to convince dh that one of the carpets is too past it for words so we are going to take it up instead and replace it with rugs (there is also going to be building work there, possible still before Christmas, and we have an offcut for after that is done.) Its the room where the dogs sleep, and I imagine without the carpet they'll need their heat lamp on at nights afterwards.

Are you certain that your gas usage is only a quid a day?

In the depths of last winter I had ONE radiator on for ONE hour a day and my quarterly bill came to £90
  • I had to cave in and turn mine on today however getting to middle of november was good for me, in a poorly insulated house and found every window sopping wet and starting to mould up, rooms felt damp. heating has been on all day on low to shift some of this (boiler comes with settings 1-7, its on setting 2) enough to raise indoor temp from 12 this morning to a current toasty 18.
going off tonight and will see what its like in here tomorrow.

Back off now, and has been for the last 3 days as it warmed up. Currently 17 inside which is warm enough for me. Only used it for about 4 hours so far.

I'm going to have to mow the lawn for one last time this weekend as it's grown since i put the mower away at the end of October. Never needed to mow it in November before.
