Not yet but I suspect very soon it will go on. As this afternoon I was freezing. But went down stairs and moved around and I was better.
Just have to see what happens over the next few days.

Hi All, Thank you for all the fantastic tips, this really is an excellent thread. I was hoping though that someone can please put me straight re: heating.....
Is it cheaper to have the heating on twice a day i.e once in the morning and evening to get rid of the chills.... OR (as I keep be told)
Have the heating on continously low, as it takes more energy to warm a cold house then to keep it at a constant temperature.
I'm really not sure what to do, so any advice would be much appreciated....0 -
Mine went on yesterday. Me n little un havent been too well lately n i suspect its coz our house is freezing. Ds1 has been waking up the last few mornings freezing so i had to put it on. I've got mine on a timer - an hr an a half on a morn n 2hrs on an evening, but i too wonder whether its cheaper to have heating on all day on low.£387.39/£196.46

Good question and I would love to know the answer too. We have had the heating on for one hour at a time now and again. It's so cold tonight but no heating on. I'm just sat up in bed fully dressed with electric blanket on, woolly hat and fingerless gloves lol. I've been reading this thread about thermostats and wondered about mine. When I put the heating on the heating kicks in and then after half hour turns off and I swear the room is cold but the thermostat isn't kicking in. Is it me or is the thermostat working right?0 -
Ok, so I'm sitting here wrapped in a fleece blanket with my lappie on my lap and I'm warm enough ... but my DH is not so happy.
The thermostat says it's 14.2 deg c here, what do you think is a reasonable tempt to set the heating on ... if I gave in, not that I'm intending to .... I've currently told DH ... 12 degs before it goes on ....GC - March 2024 -0 -
Well our central heating system doesn't even have a thermostat!
It's just a matter of turning the dials down or the heating off when it gets too warm.
Can anyone help with this question regarding oil filled radiators.
If for example, I have the dial turned a quarter of the way on a 600w heater does that mean that I am using 150watts or is it not that simple?0 -
Iv given in. Tho I only have a oil heater, been on the sofa with a jumper & fleece blanket on me & I was still cold so have put it on for a bit, will deffo hav to put the heater on in my bedroom for a bit before bedtime as it is currently like an ice palace in there!!
In my defence im in cardiff & its freezing outside! The kitten is enjoying the heating being on tho!0 -
still no heating here! i have put an extra layer on but as it is only me here no need for heating! yet! it is getting cold though i could see my breath walking to walk - time for big winter coat soon!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. I have heard it mentioned that having the heating on continously is cheaper than having it on just twice a day, but I disagree. That heat will be escaping through the walls, floor, roof and windows however low it is. If there is nobody home then there is no point in doing this. You are heating a home with nobody in it. Cheaper to put the heating on just when you are home, it may take a little while to warm up but I'd say cheaper that way still.
BTW: My arm pain has disappeared thank you.0
