No heating yet - Co Durham - window open and wearing T shirt and leggings as painting the kitchen before it gets cold. I am in an upstairs flat so am hoping that I can hold off well into November.

I remember the clothes coming indoors as stiff as boards! What fun! The milk in the doorstep bottles stood up under the tops about 4 inches too. I also remember stone hot water bottles. The ginger beer came in the bottles.
  • I still have a stone hot water bottle. When it is very cold I still use it. It was my Grannie's

Still off here, although today I am using the heat from the conservatory to warm the house through and air the clothes off from the line.

Loopy Lewis, I enjoyed reading that bit about how things once were. We just don't know we are born, we really don't.

Washing machines, load them up switch them on and walk away.
    Duvets, not blankets any more.
Tumble dryers, huge fridges and freezers, so daily shopping is no longer a chore
Vacuum cleaners instead of beating rugs on the line to drive out the dust.

Honestly, I really mean it when I say we are very lucky compared to our grandparents - and even my mums generation - when housework really was drudgery, it was flipping hard work keeping your house clean.

It is most definitely off, but it has been on a couple of times since the end of summer. I try to leave it as long as possible before putting it on, as once it's on, it can be hard to stop putting it on when I feel cold :)
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

I had a look at British average monthly temperatures. Aprils av temp is the same as Novembers. So its a long way til then. I hope to keep it off as long as possible. I will start by lighting the fire at weekend only. then weekend and wednesday and see how it goes with residual heat. I will do washing at weekend and wednesdays only. I hope to keep it like this as long as possible. if it goes too cold for that regime I will go to lighting the fire every other day. Last winter it was lit all the time it seemed. we used far too much fuel but it was soooo coooold. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Still OFF. It's been dreich here, cold wet and very windy, temp outside is about 13, temperature chart inside downstairs is 18 so not too bad just now. Have a snuggly fluffy dressing gown on and a large smelly candle lit :) My 2 girl cats are lying on hubby while he plays XBox. Think forecast here is to be more of the same tomorrow :(
    I love this place :j:T:j

I could have written that, except I only have one cat.

Candles are awesome - they give out a lot more heat than they get credit for. I'll definitely have some contributing towards the heat this year.

Beautiful day here. We had the conservatory doors open until about 5pm and I am still sitting here in a tee shirt.
