Is your heating ON or OFF?

  • Ours is still off, September so far has been nicer weather here in Scotland than most of July/Aug! Our flat is quite shaded, and an old building of cold stone, so basically it has felt freezing in here alot of the 'summer' and so don't feel much of a difference yet. I'm prepared for a bad winter and so can't start putting the heating on now, as where do you go from there.

Off; winter duvet on and jumpers as needed, heating will not go on until 1st October as every year (and it will go off again on 1st April).

Here in Southern Scotland its damp but temperatures are okay during the day, only drops a bit low at night.

Ours is off, although it was a little bit chilly last night, yesterday afternoon was lovely and warm here.

Struggling with what to do about early mornings. DS has just started at a school across the city, so we have to get up an hour earlier - the house felt cold getting out of bed at 6:30. But we really need to save money this year, so I think I'll try to grin and bear it - DH and DS are much warmer blooded than me !

  • we havent lit our fire yet, as i find once you lite the fire/put heating on thats it, there is no turning back...

we need to buy new metal things for the bottom of the fire, as the fire burns so hot they eventually burn the bars out...lol...

we used to try and hang on until the begining of november to lite the fire, but i know last year it was super early... will how long we can hold out this year....

Still off though the cardi & jumpers are handy for heating control. STILL haven't put the quilt back on yet.

I have had my heating on over the last few days! 2 hours each morning is enough at the moment.

Blimey, the beginning of November seems late ... If we had an open fire (I wish we had) I'm sure I would start to light it in the evenings when we started to feel the chill, and put off switching on heating for the whole house

Ours is still off... hoping to stay that way till at least october!
  • I am hoping to last until the end of November, we wear thermals, thick socks and bring quilts downstairs to watch tv :)
  • I light the wood/coal fire on accassion these days.
I found mysels sitting at my computer with fingerless gloves on, a scarf around my neck and cold feet!..

The summer has been nothing but chilly and wet... the wettest since 1904 they say.. and I am just c!ld!!

So on goes the wood fire for a while. Just a few blocks and then I let it die out again. But it's enough to get me lovely and warm (huddled next to it) and lift my spirits up again.

    I hate being cold.
