Is your heating ON or OFF?

3 bed detached, new build B rated. Boiler keeps water hot for days, I have it on for half an hour a day. Heating off for tonight. Read a book at the week-end about being green and lots of advise from energy people and they said they've done tests and it definately costs more to leave heating on all the time at low temprture.
We have double glazing but the doors are not a snug fit so let in draughts, as does the letterbox. We also have trickle vents above every window which aren't airtight when closed so let in draughts. Hubby won't let me tape them up either, says we need air to circulate:eek: Can't convince him that opening the window is much better, that way I can control when cold air comes in.

shssssss not that snow word lol and no -6 please
who am i kidding ! its horrid out today
im in a ground floor flat in what could have been converted houses (semi detached)
its made of covered breeze blocks (nice !) double glazed but thin walls, no cavity walls, only 1 door (pvc style) open up to chimney
gch done by a small boiler in the kitchen , using around 20-25 of gas per week heating only on for few hours at night, maybe hour in morning
£££'s??? OMG that is a LOT compared to my house.... I sometimes wonder if my meter is b e g g a r e d  OR maybe my personal theory of keeping it on low 24/7 really IS MSE.
I know people have posted that my way is expensive, but I have done trials in my house, and that my own personal result... Other houses/boilers/usage may well be different to my own.
I rented my house out a few years ago when I lived elsewhere, and the woman who lived here said it was freezing! I was shocked as I have always found it to be a warm cosy house... I'm sitting now in Prim@ark PJs and sheepskin slippers and I am warm as toast so no idea how she thought it was cold unless she did the 2 hours morning, 2 hours evening thing, which for me, worked out more expensive - I did try telling her but she was worried about wasting money
(I've lived in genuinely freezing houses with ice on the inside of the windows, snow so deep we had to climb out of the windows to clear it from the doors, and sleeping in clothes, hats and sleeping bags under normal duvets etc so its not that I am a 'hardy' type)
OH!!! And I remember coming down to the kitchen one morning to find an inch of snow IN the kitchen that had come under the door!!! It was when I was a young thing and it never occurred to me to plug the gap :rotfl:0 -
I thought it might be useful if we all posted our weekly usage of gas, along with the type of house, to help those who are worried about the cost and therefore not putting the heating on... I was a bit suprised that I was using less than I thought.
2 bed 60s built semi with ancient, inefficient boiler (max 60% efficiency  )
Well insulated roof and cavity wall insulation, cold kitchen and Draughty, single glazed back door
Gas card meter (more exp than billed usage)
Heating on 24/7 but on low, also 24/7 hot water (I have found this to be most cost effective for my house)
We in 3 bed quite big bungalow, GCH well insulated 10 inch loft insu, double glazed, 2 doors to get in back way, 2 doors to get in front entrance, so no draughts, boiler only 19 months old some new double panel rads, heating on 14 hours per day, @ 21 degrees ....... and our gas bill is very low .. .......its the insulation what does it what definately keeps the bills down ....we know that our suppliers have put their prices up , so our next bill will be higher , but I definately wont moan after hearing about what people are paying the price of heating oil in the last few days..........how on earth do they justify their prices.....phew I feel for oil users right now, what with the price and plus waiting weeks for delivery and all this so cold weather to contend with.........0 -

£10-£15 per week (depending on weather. I suspect this will go up next week due to the cold front)

It's most definitely ON but the thermostat is set to a modest 14 degrees. It was a very parky 8 degrees when I got up this morning and I think I might just have enough money set aside for the gas-bill when it comes in February going by my very closely-monitored usage so far. Fingers crossed.0

Despite the snow its not as bitter a day here as it has , we turned it off low this morning and are about to put it back on so that it doesn't get too cold. I'm edgy about oil now. Because its our first winter here and with the system unknown to us all we know is that it chugs through the oil!0

On, but keeping living room between 60f (15.5c) and 65f (18.3c) 59f now.
Cat is hogging the radiator!!!! (clever as knocks a towel off the radiator and lies on it beneath the radiator)
If the cold continues I may have to resort to snug rug but a cold home is unsavoury!!!0
