  • I've reached the 1st November without putting heating on! Woke up this morning and it's freezing (first real overnight frost in Berkshire), thankfully breadmaker was on auto so the kitchen was lovely and warm :)

Family kept reminding me last night that it was the last day of October  - might make them hold out until the 1st December...

Still off here, and no cold hands, its still so warm, do put the woodie on at night, but thats free heat. Supposed to be cold tonight, but i have a lovely duvet, and an old fashioned bootie (eiderdown) on my bed so lovely and warm in bed. I dont like it too hot in the bedroom anyhoo.

Today was my target and I reached it woohoo! But going to stretch it further now, I am in the south east though, and its been amazingly warm, sheets all ok to dry outside in a couple of hours yesterday.

Good luck to all others, trying to see how long they can hold out! Its quite fun actually!

I always feel bad when I read threads like this. Our heating is never switched off although the thermostat is set very low during the summer. In my defence we live in a cooler part of the uk than most of you.
We have done this for a number of years, our house is new and well insulated, we have individual thermostats on most radiators, and our bills never changed. we are both shift workers and setting the timeclock was just not practical as no two days were the same. if the house is empty we turn the thermostat down..turning it back uo as we come back in.

  • I have to admit that I put the CH on for 15 mins yesterday afternoon, as my knees were starting to seize up because I was cold. I also put it on for 15 mins at 3.30am and again at 6.30am when I got up to start the day. Looks like its going to get frosty tonight (hurrah! kill the bugs! lol), so we'll have to see how we get on! I've got £7 on the gas card to last until Saturday when I put another £15 on it. Four days. Fingers crossed!

  • Heating has gone on this morning - it's freezing  Sat here in wooly jumper and fleece and I'm just beginning to feel the rads warming the rooms.

Will turn it off in an hour and then set the timer to come on 1 hour morning, 2 hours evening - then adjust if necessary.

My DD will be pleased - she's been moaning for ages that it's "freezing in this house..." (as she struts around in skimpy top  )

  • My OH is like that, sits around for hours in his pants, socks and a t-shirt, then wonders why he's cold!

Finally had to close the big windows in my bedroom yesterday :( (Kept the little one open though).

Still haven't put the winter duvet on, but I did put and extra blanket on.

Going to see how long I can last, but with a Northerly wind and the north side of the house not getting any sun ... it may not be too long away!

Yeah, have made it to November without the heating going on. Think it might have to go on tonight for a bit. I thought about putting it on this morning, but have managed without it. It is a little chilly, but not too horrendous.

I had a look at my meter readings last night and worked out that I'm using 12 units per day on heating. That's about 35p per day. £10 per month I suppose.

Still not on here!!! I'm dead chuffed that we made it to November without turning it on.. thought we might have to last night with the cold snap beginning but we were fine, i was even sat here in a t-shirt, although OH has a t-shirt and shirt on. I did have the oven on briefly in the early evening to cook something, so that heat would have helped... i think some of it is the things i've done like putting lining on the curtains and the draught excluders, it all helps. not even that cold this morning so... will see how we get on. Its lovely and sunny outside now though..
