:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: OMG!
I once lived in a very old, draughty place with storage heaters which were worse than useless and our back door had an inch gap between the end of the door and the floor - I once came down to find snow had drifted thru the gap and there was a neat drift of it which came in about 4 inches to the kitchen
That was in my younger days when I had no idea that I could do anything about these things, and just put up with it
It was so cold during a powercut that lasted 4 days, that none of us got dressed or changed during 3 of those days (YUK) and slept in our clothes inside a sleeping bag with duvets on the top and wore hats in bed!!! It was appalling. Never, ever again! Altho we did venture out in the evening to the local pub to sit by candlelight in front of the open fire and compare notes with the locals! Even the cash machine didn't work for days, no candles in the shops, no food in, nothing. OMG its a wonder I survived, but I did0 -
Layered up last night with winter duvet, flannel bedding and 2 blankets on the end of the bed and very cosy! Didn't want to get up this morning and I could feel the chill in the air. Going to be a struggle getting up out of this from now on!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550

mines not on as yet,BUT the house is only 14deg this morning(except in my fridge of a bedroom where its 12 in room, and 9 behind curtains, proof that thick curtains DO make a difference!!!!)
so may have to set timer on thermostat to turn boiler on for a bit in the morning, normally i dont turn on heating til mid oct,but it not normally this chilly this early in year.will keep checking house temp and weather forecast and take it from there.
that said we r all in pjs and dressing gowns, and snuggled on sofas with fleece throws and no one has complained they r cold yet, maybe im hardening up!!!0 -
I caved in last night and set the heating to come on this morning. I got home from work at about half eleven last night and was absolutely freezing and miserable, went to bed wearing layers of clothing and couldn't bear to get up this morning to a cold house.
No doubt when DH wakes up he'll complain that the house is too hot (he is always too hot whereas I am a reptile and always freezing) but I don't care, I put up with him sleeping with the window open and making me cold all summer0 -
Hello all can't turn the central heating on it's bust! New system goes in on Friday. Luckily we have a gas fire as well in the sitting room and a small oil filled radiator-electric that we have brought down from the loft. Bit chilly this morning so I have come back to bed with the lappie.
Take care

ours is still off at the moment but won't be long until we start lighting the fire every day again now I don't think. We've got hard frost this morning but the sun is out and beamimg in through the front windows which will warm the house a lot. Not looking forward to cleaning the fire out regularly but I am looking forward to constant hot water and long hot baths0

hi
just wonder how many of you have put the heating on yet i was going to wait untill november but my 7 year old dd woke me up at 430 this morring saying she was cold i swear i saw steam coming from her mouth so i got up and put it on the house was cold though and my ds has woken up a few time durring the night to (his only two) i now wonder if it was because he was cold to
Why don't you buy thicker duvets?
I have the heating on now, it has turned cold. But it has to be artic before I have it on at night. I find it stuffy.
I have a summer quilt & a winter quilt. I also have a faux fur throw folded in half on the bottom of my bed, on really cold nights I will put this over the winter quilt. DH never has it over his half though. The only time I leave the heating on at night is when we have that terrible snowy weather & thats more to save the house getting so cold that it takes ages to heat up.0 -
We put our heating on last night for a hour or so as the house was suffering from the cold winds of the last few days but guess what? Each and everyone of us struggled to sleep because we were too hot.
Going to try to resist the urge of switching it on, it's obviously not that cold just yet.
Sure does make a difference going from living in a small, well insulated new build to a larger, older, poorly insulated house though. Learning to adjust.0 -

Its going to take me a while to get used to the cold this year I think
