heating gone on but watching it like a hawk, any minute know it will be switched off, dont want the family to get to cosy and spoil them. My house is in a cold spot, if u were to go around the corner of the road [about 5 houses away ] you would think u were in another country it's that warm. Just gone around the house switching off lights [did'nt know we were in competition with blackpool illumunations for who can have the most lights on at once ] and the tv was playing to mr nobody again. Think i will give the family my last elecky/gas bill for some bedtime reading.:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

Hi our central heating is still off, but the sitting room electric fire is on but it is only one bar instead of three. Hopefully keep it off another two weeks at least. The sitting room has blankets on the back of the suite so they can be used and the bedroom windows are shut at about 4 oclock so they retain any heat. Last year we were paying £117 per month, and we have managed to cut that to £90, and are £90 in credit at the moment, after getting back £156 in July, so hopefully the £90 will be enoughEvery days a School day!0

Is it only heating if it's central heating then? I don't have central heating, but do have fires. I've lit the coal one, and switched on electric heaters, but maybe I don't have the heating on *shrugs shoulders* ??? I think it's disingenuous to think because you're burning wood or coal that you don't have "the heating" on. Personally, I go by the temperature in the house, not some random date, and of course individuals feel the cold differently, in the same way that some can enjoy summer temperatures of 90F while others are like limp lettuces at 75F.
Just edited to say this is not aimed at you chella:o I started to type before you posted but got called away. Just my general observation that folks aren't all using the same definition of heating. I take it to mean any source of heat other than the sun:D

Still off at the moment, but my right arm is bandaged up for another week so I am still too warm for any heating. tonight my feet felt a bit chilly so i put my furry socks that my sis-in-law gave me last chrismas on and i soon warmed up0

OFF. Can't put it on or even light a fire until we have swept the chimneys (solid fuel) - well that's my excuse anyway. And if there is any sun at all our upstairs living room does get warm and holds it into the evening - but there wasn't today and chilly NE wind - have just made kids hotties and they are sitting under their downies eating toast and hot chocolate for supper before bed - they are 15 in case you're wondering why they're still up!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0

I suppose people have different definitions of heating because they have different methods of heating... and different methods have different costs for different people....
For me personally i feel pleased to know that i have not got the central heating on as that i pay for on a monthly basis..... BUT i do have the log burners on which heat the whole downstairs (its 26 degrees in the living room at the moment :j BUT the wood is free to us.... :j:j and the heat rises through the floorboards to the bedrooms and heats the whole house.. i realize we are very fortunate as we are able to heat the house for free most of the year....
when it gets really cold - below minus in the mornings - we do set the central heating to come on for an hour in the morning but hopefully that will not be until december...
So my heating is i suppose ON but i don't regard it as ON in the terms of the original question as it is not turning around a meter and costing money....
