We live in the Northern Isles so our seasons are a bit behind central england lol!
I'm not as far north as you (but still north of Aberdeen) and you'd be surprised by how much the washing dries in this weather. Once they're taken inside they only take an hour or 2 to dry on the clothes horse.
Taken today. It's been weather like this for the past 4 days and i've hung out every day. Had to knock snow off the clothesline first though.0 -

As I also have a very bad lower back I simply find it too difficult to hang it all outside, only to have to hang it all indoors again! Also it can be very windy here, sometimes too windy for washing, so it is harder than you think to dry washing here.
I get your point though and try to get washing out as much as I can when the weather is decent for drying- by this I mean weather where I won't have to hang twice! If my back was ok then I would happily do what you do!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I agree that it can be too windy for washing. It just gets wound up around the lines.
And somethings are just not worth putting your back out for.0 -
I left mine out overnight a few weeks ago only to find it had snowed and then defrosted leaving just the waistbands soaked. I do jeans upside down in snowy weather now.

I loved the picture of the washing out on the line with the snow - always thought that if I hung washing outside when very cold they would freeze solid, obviously this is not the case.
Thank you jackieb, you have inspired me to put the clothes out to part-dry at least even when cold (not in the rain obviously hehehe).
Today, heating on (low but constant) all day, because it is cold and, as you know, the myth goes:
"It takes more energy to heat a space from freezing cold than to keep it on fairly low regularly" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
