I never switch ours off. It is controlled both by timer and thermostat. There is no need to switch it off as it will only operate when required.

Same here - mine comes on a diff temps a diff times of day - so set the therm for 19 fr showers etc in the morning, 17 in the eves (earlier n the days I finish wrk early) and much less for most of the time we are out - so if its freezing in Aug it will come on. i can't see the point of having a random date on which its ok to be cold/ warm

Not even thinking about it....most of this house is about 200 years old and would need to put on a new roof to insulate it, so heat has been on from early morning until about 10pm since Christmas. As there is just OH and me here now we only have it on some of the time but have the woodburner in the kitchen and open fire in LR lighting most of the time too....would hate to calculate what OH has spent on logs and peat briquettes as I only pay for the oil and that has been €1000 since last May and there is less than half a tank left to see us through to May 2010. We are out in the country so that makes things worse but will not be cold or hungry as long as I can afford it....bad for my old bones.

What temperature does everyone have their thermostats at?

We don't have a thermostat, and the boiler doesn't have any numbers on it either. I've got the dial on the boiler turned to as low as I can get away with.

  • Switched ours on December 1st and it's back off now. Sadly the boiler has broken we are nervous to just invite a random plumber in and are waiting to get the number of a recommended one from a friend, she's been away but I hope to see her today. We've been 2 weeks now with no heating or hot water! Have to boil the kettle to wash although we went to grannys at the weekend and had showers. I have three kids but bless them they don't complain. At least the bills will be low this month.

  • The heating is off, the windows are open and the washes are line drying.

It's about 9 C so warmer than it has been for ages.

    Contrast to the Northern Isles!
Our heating needs to be on, the windows are only open to air in the morning, the washes are indoors as it has been snowing outside :eek::eek:.
