Mine is now on for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening, but I'm finding I have to put it on other times as well as the house is absolutely freezing. We have old, knackered windows which probably doesn't help.
I'm very cold blooded and my biggest problem is going to bed - last night I was in PJ bottoms, t-shirt, jumper and slipper socks and was still cold, but DH doesn't feel the cold and was in his birthday suit. If I buy an electric blanket or a heavier duvet it'll be too hot for him. No idea what the solution is but I'm not sure going to bed wearing two layers of clothing contributes to a healthy marriage0 -
Not only have I not turned it on, but I usually have all of the windos open during the daytime and we sleep with the wndow wide open at night. It's not bad at all because our house is fully glazed, has cavity and loft insulation and faces East. Most of the time during the afternoons if it's sunny, the living room gets well toasty so as long as the door is shut it's rather nice.
As far as washing goes, I hang everything out still if i can help it, and if not, it gets put on a clotheshorse and I'll turn the dehumidifier on.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

could you have separate duvets? We have a duvet each because apparently I have a habit of stealing it all :rotfl:0 -

My husband is the duvet thief in our house, not me :rotfl: Not sure separate duvets would work though, due to them not being able to hang over on both sides if you see what I mean. And he couldn't have any overlap due to him being too hot blah blah blah.
Wonder if I could put a single bed electric blanket on my side.0 -

We have an electric blanket which has dual controls so each can have the correct temperature for them. Perhaps this would be a solution?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Take a double or king size duvet fold it in half and lie between the two halfs. It is much warmer than lying under the duvet.
A blanket underneath is worth two on top.
If you are still cold a blanket on top helps a lot. You can pick up woollen blankets from a charity shop for £2 to £4 and are easier and cheaper to wash. A local launderette charges £10 for washing a duvet.0 -

We have a king sized bed, two king sized duvets and neither of us are on the small side but it all seems to fit okay. Hubby seems pretty unconcerned about whether it's cold or hot but I alternate between steam and freeze due to the hormones. (Was the same when I was pregnant.) And he was the duvet thief too. The duvets don't overlap, they fit down inbetween us. Not quite as friendly as cuddling up but really, most folk sleep more than they cuddle and you can always visit each other's duvets.
I used to use a single electric blanket on my side a few years ago, come to think of it, before I started to have babies. Hubby thought they were for wimps so it was just a single. It was amazing how much time he spent trying to inch over to sleep on it though.Val.0 -
angeltreats - sounds like the ideal solution for you would be to get yourself one of those hot water bottles with a nicy fleecy cover. They're very comforting for anybody with cold feet and any heat will be restricted to your side of the bed so your OH won't get overheated. It's difficult to get to sleep when your feet are cold and you find yourself curling up into a foetal position to preserve body heat which isn't necessarily the most relaxing way of relaxing your muscles to induce sleep.0

I have just given in and turned the lounge storage heater on, I don't like to be too quick off the mark with the storage heaters, as they aren't very controllable, so it's wasteful if the weather warms up again.
I'm currently looking after my neighbours house and despite being away, she leaves the heating on all day, a very warm and toasty (I find it a bit too warm) 21c. Money to burn, or what!0 -
Just succumbed and turned it on. Probably could have hung in a bit longer but i am renovating the whole house so its not yet as warm as it could be. I think buying my little dog a jumper and seeing her still shivering was enough to make me turn it on.
I will be quite interested to see how the house retains heat compared to last year as now its fully double glazed and i have been insulating upstairs. (although not completely finished, there was nothing there before.)
I have also changed energy suppliers, so hoping to see some savings there.
But as you all know, once its on its going to be hard going back.
Also been working hard all year, so got to have some luxuries.0
