Wow, my coldest bedroom was 10C when I arrived home from work
  • Our bedroom is usually between 14-16 degrees, depending on whether OH has left the window open or not. Its the only room that *has* to be cold :)

I think it is the warm front grant and insulatoin that we had 4 years ago that is keeping our house so warm. Has anyone else had the free grant?
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Is a rice sock simply as it sounds?

I have started to put my heating on the past few weeks but only when i need it on. My Mum called in one night and she now thinks im skint and don't have any money to put the heating on! I try an hour here or there but it is harder when you're in the house all day at weekends etc. I do feel obliged to put it on for other peoples benefits though. No real way of getting round it !

  • The heating went on on Monday as it was a ridiculously low temperature when I woke up circa 8C. The central heating has been switched off since the tail end of March. So around 7 1/2 months. :j

I have decided that I can basically manage for 8 months of the year with no heating ie from Mar 1 until Nov 1. However, I do not expect my grandchildren and other visitors to tolerate the same low temps as myself so will switch on when they visit.

I must be going soft, but I turned the heating up today because I am dog sitting my son's 12 week old Llhasa Apso puppy. She got very dirty when we went for a walk and I had to bath her. She was shivering with the cold. My own Llhasa has to put up with the same cold temps as me but I couldn't do it to a puppy. She is a little gem.
  • We still haven't put on yet. Kids haven't complained. Have a hot water bottle and extra bedspread at night otherwise the cold keeps me awake but happy not to have a stuffy headache from heat of central heating.

  • We haven't had any heating until last week(due to husband replacing radiators and they had a few teething leaks!)have an open fire in the front room which burns a mix of coal and logs we findand then shivered our way to bed with hot water bottles!
It's been a real eye opener as Scottish power now are sending us a cheque for nearly £400 pounds,so we are now rationing our heating to an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening.

Luckily we got our done when it was half price in b&q beginning of last year and it has made a huge difference. The house still gets cold but warms up quick with heating on and stays warm for ages.

I also know a few people who have tried to get the grant but landlord/council have said house up to scratch so cant or that it will be knocked down in a few years so cant! Seems a bit unfair when they are suffering now!
