Hi all, well my heatings been on for the past few weeks, not by choice but by necessity. None of the kids clothes, work clothes etc have not been getting dry due to all the rain/drizzle so had to have the heating on.Its only on from 6-8:30 am and 4:30-8:30 pm, with the highest temp is set for 19.5c high i know. Most of the time it doesn't click on the night, just the mornings.Still too long for my liking but this house is a nightmare, when its cold its really cold. Last year the milk froze on the kitchen table:eek:, the kids were well impressed with the milk ice cubes that came out of it.

    Good luck all
  • I've had the spare room on just to dry my clothes, dressing gown and fresh sheets.

Otherwise kept it off, it was freeeezing last night. Gonna stock up on thermals, socks and slippers next week, £5 primark spree!

We've got the heating set on 15 now and apart from at night (when I'll put it down to 14) it will stay like that.
It does to be fair, not often come on atm.

We could go a bit lower, but we have a v young baby and we need to keep it at a reasonable level. We've had the first fire as well.
The house has lost any residual heat from the warmer times now and will be hard to keep it heated.

Honestly, I just can't believe this weather, we still haven't had a decent frost yet and now it's supposed to be getting warmer again.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • Yes tomorrow is supposed to be quite a few degrees warmer than the first half of the week, at least where I live. I had the heating on this morning but won't tomorrow. We ended up being too hot under the duvet and too cold outside of it, can't get comfortable like that.

My oil filled rad in the bathroom is on as it's like siberia out there, tiled floor and is on the ground floor, but apart from that, I've managed to resist :)

My electricity monitor is showing its 15 degrees in the lounge today and I'm snuggled up in warmish clothes. We're having blankets on the beds but aren't cold, so I'm hoping I can hold out til December if I'm lucky! Now i have an electricity monitor I am really conscious of what is plugged in and how much it's costing me, I'd rather wrap up warmly now and "save" the heating for when we really need it.....

Mine went on a few days ago, 2hrs on a morn and 2hrs on an evening. I've got 2 thermometers in mine, one upstairs in ds's bedroom and one in our lounge. Its 13degrees in ds's bedroom during the day at the mo but were always out and it goes up to 17/18 on an evening when heating clicks on. My lounge says 15 but it feels much colder than that, but i really feel the cold. I dont mind sitting all wraped up with fleece blankets and my OH and ds love it too but we certainly wont try and keep it off for the sake of it i hate being cold but we're trying to be as 'tight' as we can with our heating this year to hopefully give us a decent amount of credit for next year when our 2nd bubs arrives.

on here cant leave it off hubby is an ill man and bedroom is below 14 cant let him sleep in that , just wish HA would fix this place up so it would be warm, doesent help when you can see daylight round frountdoor and window and wall dont meet as frount of place is subsiding i feel like im heating outside what a waist of money, im getting so down with it all.

I do hope you get some positive response from your cpn, local councillors etc., but meanwhile, to try and make things a little more comfortable, a cheap way to stop the draughts around the doors and windows: make papier-mache with torn up newspapers and wallpaper paste. fill all the cracks with this using a kitchen knife/spatula etc. just to temporarily block the gaps and keep the heat in. You could even melt down old candles in a saucepan and when cool enough to handle, use this like plasticine to fill the gaps.

This can easily be raked out when permanent repairs are made and should help save a little on the bills.

Have had my boiler and fire serviced today. He is coming back next week to fit a thermostat in the living room. I have it set to come on about 6pm. But Im just wondering whether to use gas fire for a while early evening if needed and put radiators on later for an hour. I was thinking it might be cheaper that way. Heating has been on in the evenings for a few days. 7pm till 9pm. Its 15degrees in here at the moment. No heating on as I have a fleece jacket on.

Mine's been on for a while now. I'm not using it nearly as much as a year ago though. When i'm at home all day it's pretty parky. Last year we got a portable gas fire. A canister of gas cost £24 (£25 if they deliver it). Putting one bar on heats the kitchen up in no time at all., and if I leave the door open the heat travels through into the hall and livingroom. I'm still on my first canister of gas.

Hi, again. Just been looking at the temp thing on a cold bedroom wall and it reads 18/19 C. no CH on. We lite the coal fire about 3pm. Have had the SC on all day and cooker for 1/2 at dinner time. I think the house is retaining heat due to high insulation in walls and loft. Fleece's on chairs and beds for extra warmth. Bought slipper boots and leg warmers for when @ home.Hot water bottles in beds.

Read the meters today for on line request. The new graph for consumption is showing lower for gas and electric. Horay! I see it as a bit of a game to see what lights I can snap off at night as family go out.
