Is your heating ON or OFF?

I have to confess that I am enjoying the warmer temperature since we put the central heating on (around a week ago or so). It is on 6-8am and 6-8pm. During the days I cover up better while I work at home and also use cups of tea to warm my hands.
If the weather is particularly cold we also put on the woodstove but that is no problem because it helps clothes to dry on the clothes horse and also when it is on I cook stuff on it.Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Since 1st November, mine has been on 7-9am and 7-10pm set at 20deg now (originally set at 16deg). Had to raise it as we're open-plan and all the heat was just going straight up the flipping staircase
.
Living Room radiator is on (no valve as wall control is in living room), dining room and bathroom both set to '2' - downstairs loo, and bedrooms are all set to * (frost-free setting) only.
We don't use any other form of heating at all. There is an electric fire BUT it's never in use - except for the flame effect for the cosy feeling when expecting visitors.
If the youngest 2 dgk's are due to visit and it's VERY cold, I'll 'fast forward' the timer.0 -

I've only set the input to 2 (out of 6) and the output will stay at its lowest. The only reason I've done it is it looks llike its gonna be cold over the next couple of days, and DS and I are at home. I'll turn it off again on Thurs night as OH will be the only one home (and he'll be in bed!) I hate having ot plan ahead with stoopid storage heaters!

Back off again tonight.... was roasting this morning as the weather had gone milder and DS and I are both out tomorrow, so no need for heating

Has anyone like me got storage heaters. I find it doesnt matter what setting i put them on they just belt out the heat. Its 23degrees in my living room at the moment. Im finding that if its mild outside ie 12degrees today my storage heaters only go up by 10 or 11 degrees. Ie if it was 3degrees it would only be 13 to 14 degrees in my living room. I also find that sometimes i only need to put them on everyother day and very rarely use the bedroom one as it gets too stuffy in there and like others i get a muggy head. Im not sure whether its more economical to use my tumble drier to dry 2 loads of washing and turn the storage heater off or turn the storage heater and dehumidifier on and leave the washing to dry by the heater. Ive controlled the condensation and dont get any problems with that or damp at the moment. I just wondered which would be more economical, Has anyone tried one or the other. By the way im on Economy 7 and i do make sure i make use of the tarriff.0

I turned on my heating at 18C for 2 hours on Wednesday to dry some clothes and half an hour today and that's been it so far this year.
My original plan was to make it to November without turning on the heating properly (as in morning & night) but now I'm going to try for December. The ouse seems to retain the heat very well, it was 15C when we put it on this morning and it's been a steady 18C since then and that was only 30m of heating. I work from home but luckily don't feel the cold much and if it gets nippy I can always go and sit in bed with the laptop and the cats.
Last Oct-Jan bill was £52 for gas (3 bed terrace) so aiming to beat that this year (although this one will be a 6 month bill).0 -
Nope, still no SC. We have 2 convector fires on for a few hours this evening and I am wareing my slipper boots(feet always get cold first). The oven was on for 1 hour at dinner time.
The house is retaining the heat well due to thick loft insulation, insulated cavity walls, double glazing and well lined curtains.
I would love to go along my street with one of thoose heat finding gun things to see how my house compares to others. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
We don't even have the fire on this evening. It's turned very mild again here
At this rate the winter bills will be much smaller than usual!
