    we've got ours to come on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening , its the time of year that I hate , its not really cold enough for the heating to be on but the smell of damp washing and the fact that I can't get it dry drives me mad so I've only put the radiators on so I can dry the washing a bit better
    if I have a day with no washing ( highly unlikely lol ) then I'll turn it off

    Oh dear. We have ours on. :o In my defense it is a very eco friendly heat transfer system and it doesn't cost much to run (and I live in the Scottish Highlands)

    Erm... and we lit the fire this evening and it was bl00dy lovely. :D Only burned old wood leftover from chicken run building though. ;)

    If you're having problems with your Local Authority (or Housing Association) not doing repairs properly, I would suggest finding out which Councillors sit on the Housing Committee and 'having words' with them. They want your votes come election time, so make them earn their keep by representing you when necessary.

    I am sitting looking at a yellow A4 sheet that came through the door this morning, it is from the council and it forms me that my two local councillors go by the name of "vacant".

    Seriously considering standing myself.
  • i havent got my heating on and only need to use it around 20% of the year if that as i live in a new build bungalow and its really warm...you all might think im lucky but

    the downside of it is when its boiling hot in summer i cant leave windows open overnight as people can easily climb through and rob me lol! so i waste money that i save on heating on fans in mine n the kids rooms

    There's a vast difference for those who live in northern regions (arctic ;)) as opposed to those who live in the south (almost sub-tropical :rolleyes:);
    differences in our homes - c/h, d/g, well insulated, north/south facing;
    family circumstances - at home all day, young children, elderly relatives;
    health issues - poor/restricted mobility, poor circulation, diabetic, illnesses;
    lifestyles - out at work all day, shift workers, active/inactive and
    then there's finances - able to afford to put the heating on a bit, struggling to cope and :eek::eek::eek: let's just hibernate!

    This is soooooooooooooooo true! From reading some of your posts on other threads I gather we live in the same area - Merseyside.
    The other week I went to stay in Essex and had packed jumpers & jeans cos it was dead cold here - got down there and it was 25 degrees every day!

    I'll be interested to see what our gas bill is like this year
    Same house with central heating, south facing garden so sun at back of house, HOWEVER last year we were both at work full time or out watching the footy. This year, I'm on maternity leave and OH has lost his job so we are both home. Oh yeah and we appear to have a lodger from next week - BIL is coming to stay as he has a job in Liverpool!

    So far, am OK with lots of thin layers and fleece blankets - although I'm trying to keep active during the evenings to keep even warmer!
    A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

    Where does the time go? :think:

    Hi Glamazon - Greetings from Huyton :hello: - it HAS been lovely and sunny here this week but gets quite chilly once the sun goes down - brrrrr.

    You'll definitely notice a rise in your heating bills this winter, just by the very nature of having a young baby in the house - but you can't take any chances with him/her around. Hope something turns up soon for your OH - bad enough with you being on mat leave, without him being out of work as well.

    Good Luck to you all :grin:.

    Whereabouts are you?
