No heating on but we have lit the woodburner a couple of nights. Thinking this is better value than having the heating on - the wood we're burning was free and we boil a kettle on the top of the burner and use that to fill vacuum flasks and use the water to wash the dishes so that means the combi boiler doesn't fire up to heat the water.

I've made my Christmas cake this morning so the kitchen's still nice and cosy and smells all Christmassy:D

Mines on most evenings now. On low during the day just to keep the chill off and turned up at night if needed

Ours is on for the first time today! I have a rotten cold and cough and am feeling very shivery! We are also in the process of having hall stairs and landing re done (old artex off, new smooth layer on and repainted) so the house is very very cold!

Hopefully it can go off soon as I have warmed up. Also snuggled up in cardie, woolly socks, fleecy blankets etc and big mug of hot tea!

I did have hopes of holding out until November before heating went back on!

Ours is still off at the moment but like others we are starting to notice the drop in temp. My only real problem is drying clothes. We just seem to have so much washing and if i cant put it outside it just takes forever to dry - will not buy a tumble dryer though!.
We went to our toddlers group the other day and they had the heating on. It was lovely leaning against the radiators with my chilly legs. Really cosy

That's good advice about checking if the heating works PenPen - would hate to be caught out. I've got a load of logs ready just in case I feel too cold but don't want to heat the whole house.

Alice-mary, good luck keeping yours off - good idea laying the fire!

I'm really not feeling bothered by the low temps which is odd - and I'm not having hot flushes or fevers! I'm stuck at home with a badly sprained ankle and hence am not even moving about as much as normal. Normally my hands feel the cold but they were fine last night and the sitting room was 13.5C! Within 5 minutes of opening the blinds this morning and the sun streaming in, the temp rose by 2 degrees. It's 16.5C now and feels balmy.

I'm aiming to keep it off till November and it's looking good so far!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

    Hello all

Heating still off - this is my first year at OS and i am trying to get to 1st November like most others.

Not sure whether i will make it though - already have blankets on bed and sox on in bed. Starting to layer up in the evenings and drinking more hot drinks.

Worried about bills this year - last winters was horrendous. Have a back boiler and cant afford to change to a combi just yet

The heating comes on at 4am for an hour for my husband (he leaves at 5.30am so an hour is plenty). I've set the pre-set temperature so that it'll come on if it dips below 5C... it'll not come on during the day until mid-November.

we have a duvet that we use as a throw on the sofa that we can snuggle under if we get chilly on an evening... moneysaving on heating bills and helps keep the romance alive;):D

It got colder here in the last couple of days. Sunny today, but my flat faces north so it always feel a tad colder than it would be otherwise. Still no heating, but if tonight it's colder still I'll put it on for a while.
