Is your heating ON or OFF?

mine is at an inbetween stage just now. We've got storage heaters that I just can't get the timings right on to save money so once they're on, they're on! However, in the meantime, I've been using the boost button on the living room heater for 10/15 minutes at a time - really takes the edge of the chilliness (and even better, it's right next to my chair so I can warm my toes on it!)0

Ours isn't on full-time on the timer yet. We've been putting it on for an hour some mornings, and some evenings when it's been cold inside. Cold enough that even the walking socks and woolly jumpers don't help.0

Off, an dI intend to keep it off for as long as possible. I am going to order some coal though, as it gets quite chilly in the evenings.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

To me it is a competition but I'm not competing with other people: I'm competing against British Gas and their ruinous prices. I got immense pleasure last winter togged up in my thermals and fleeces once the bill came in February and the heating cost me less than the year before. I'm looking to get it down to even less this year as I may not have a job after Christmas.
Oh no, poor you, fingers crossed it doesn't happen.
You're right, BG and the rest are crippling us all. I've already warned DH that any time the rads are on this year, washing will be drying on them or airing, as I can't run the tumble dryer and the heating. I'd love to just use the airer, but with ten of us in the house, I can't keep on top of it any other way!I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. We're going to try and stick it out until November too, and even then try to go out as much as possible to not have it on over the winter. We raked up an extortionate bill last year which is still being paid so what we don't use this year will offset last year as they are still billing us on estimates.
We're also thinking of getting a calor gas heater as we're electricity only and it makes my eyes water to think of the cost of heating with electricity. Can anyone vouch for the fact that they are much cheaper to run (the portable ones?).I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -

I have a delonghi one. It costs £25 for a gas canister. It's only a recent purchase and we're still on our first bottle so i've no idea how long it'll last. It definitely heats the place up quickly though.0 -
Mmm, we're thinking about a Calor heater too, for the room with no fire grate. Let us know how long your gas bottle lasts will you, so we can compare prices ~ gotta be cheaper than electric, and the speedy heating of the one room you're in must make it cheaper than gas to heat the entire house.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. I haven't put the heating on yet, I am going to try to last until November BUT it was so cold this morning I wavered about putting the heat on at least in the bathroom , but as I am on a card meter for the gas and I know there's less than a tenner on there I decided not to!
Last year I bought gas all summer (but never used it)so by the time winter had arrived I had £50 on the meter. Don't know what's happened this year but I didn't do that:oKEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -

I don't want to be a complete wet-blanket but if you're doing laundry for ten people I'd go with the tumble-drier instead of the heating any day. Think of the condensation all that drying laundry will create and the damage it could cause! In your place I'd dry off as best I could outside and finish off with a quick tumble only if absolutely necessary.0
