Is your heating ON or OFF?

That's why we build up our credit throughout the year so we can put our heating on without worrying too much in the winter I also built up a decent amount of credit so I can afford to do the same but still only put my heating on at 15/16 degrees during the day and about 12 degrees overnight. We have a weather warning again tonight and tomorrow for snow and ice so I will be staying indoors again with my hot water bottle and a quilt and binge watching something on tv. Its been -6 degrees for the last few days but its only expected to last for 6 days, so it's not long enough for me to get a cold weather payment Take care and wrap up warm everyone.YorksLass said:It's most definitely on! I know I'll not be happy when I do the meter readings this weekend but, needs must. DH who is 82 has limited mobility, AF and COPD so we have no choice. On the plus side, we do have a credit balance that gives us a buffer for this cold weather. Oh, to be young and active again ......5 -
I got a replacement fan heater online a couple of year's ago, didn't realise it was only about 8 inches tall and works direct from the wall socket* - it's only 500W but it is enough to take the chill out of the bedroom which with 3 outside walls is probably the coldest room in the bungalow.
*you might think I would learn from that but the hot water bottle I later got was about 1/4 of the standard size I expected (didn't realise there was anything other than a standard size). Need to take more care when sorting prices by low to high.4 -
Cold. It felt warm enough in bed at night, but was only 12 downstairs so the heating has gone on. We are £200 in credit, luckily.
I'm still wearing a thin scarf indoors as well. I find that really works to keep me warm. I might get a hot drink and a hot water bottle too.6 -
Cold here today - thermostat said 15.5 when we got up - heating went on straight away. I put it on at 18 but now it is switched to 19. Still in credit after keeping dd same all summer.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I hope you have an electric blanket. I accidentally left mine on all day on 2/3 power. But, when I checked my energy usage the next day there was hardly any difference. As I'm alone in the house with my family in other places (for a while, too) I'm trying to heat myself, not the house. Central heating only comes on for 3x 15 minutes a day. The electric blanket is very effective.mjm3346 said:
Thanks, I have a fan heater under the computer desk that's quite nice when it gets really cold and I wrap-up well - Spending on heating is not something that gives me any pleasure unlike say streaming services, higher end food choices etc.Cherryfudge said:@mjm3346, that really concerns me. Can you get out to a warmer place during the day? And even having the heat on very low is better than living at the temperatures you're reporting - check for eligibility for cold weather payments, and anything else you may be entitled too.5 -
I have my 1/4 size hot water bottle when I remember to fill it, the silly little fan heater that is enough to take the chill off the room and I wear a beanie hat in bed (while watching TV) but hadn't considered an electric blanket - just had a look and nearly fell off my chair before realising I had clicked on high to low price instead of low to high - at least delivery was only £3RHemmings said:

Used the standard sized fan heater quite a bit this afternoon and kept the lounge around 55, bedroom is a fairly bracing 43 before putting the small fan heater on and I take the standard one in there with me to warm the bed and nightclothes.

My mind boggled at £8,899.00, but a quick google shows that the Myuilor electric blanket is £89.99.mjm3346 said:

Phew. Reminds me of mattress shopping a couple of years ago. One was £5,000, I kid you not.RHemmings said:My mind boggled at £8,899.00, but a quick google shows that the Myuilor electric blanket is £89.99.
We didn't get it.
