General_Grant said:When I was a schoolchild (1950s/60s) in winter our coats were kept in the unheated hall.
Coats were to be put on only at the point we were setting foot outside. According to my mother this was because "you won't feel the benefit when you go out if you put the coat on ahead of time".
I never followed the logic as I thought I could wear the coat for a while indoors and this would mean the coat would have warmed up and keep me warmer when I did go out.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I didn't put any heating on yesterday (Sunday) but lit the gas fire for 5 hours on Saturday evening.1

It's -24C, light snow, and the windchill is making it feel like -36C if you are outside.
I don't think the furnace has been off for more than 20 minutes at a time since before Christmas.2 -
I had no heating of any sort on for 5 days from 29th December 2021 to 3rd January 2022. With unseasonably warm temperatures I survived with extra layers and a heated throw. Had to give in this morning but managed on a total of 6 hours heating. At least I have saved some money in anticipation of much colder temperatures this week.

It's back on as of 15 minutes ago as it feels really cold tonight.💙💛 💔1 -
@CKhalvashi the weatherman did say that 15 degrees was more like what you would expect for May or late September and I don't have the heating on then.

Much as we may moan about the weather in the UK, we get the benefit of four seasons a year without suffering the extremes of heat and cold.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

This morning it was -29, windchill making it feel like -39C. I swear I lost sensation in my fingers and lips walking from the car to the building doors.2

Its cold at 2degC, but I switched the heating off. I spent far too much on it last month without meaning to or feeling a shred of benefit. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
