My heating is on a thermostat so if the temperature drops below where it is set it will come regardless of what time of year it is, at the moment the thermostat is set to 16 so it has been clicking on a few mornings recently when it's been a bit nippy, once the weather turns a lot cooler I will turn the setting up to 18 degrees where it will stay for the rest of the winter1

Downstairs currently toasty at log mark 3. And costing just my sweat to process the fuel.5

Having been schooled at boarding school in northern Germany up to age 16, I still ALWAYS finish my shower with a cold shower. I am now 73!! I can't bear NOT to do this and it keeps me warm all day! Perhaps training at a young age would help us keep healthy? I am lucky to be rarely ill.

Always set at 15 throughout the year (unless turned up during cold weather) never fully turn our heating off.1

Self sourcer of wood here, otherwise known as scrounging(!): taking tree surgeon waste which would otherwise be chipped and dumped. Things like veg peelings would be too wet but you can bundle up and burn fruit tree prunings and the like. Apple wood does take an age to season though. I sometimes use the odd briquette or half briquette at the beginning of a burn.Last winter I used the gas central heating very few times and my dual fuel standing order is £20. If I've enough spare power from my PV I occasionally and briefly switch on an electric heater for localised heating.2

Wow winter has definitely arrived - woke up this morning at just before six and felt the house was too hot even though bedroom window is open and cold air was coming in so checked thermostat, which is in hall at bottom of stairs and discovered it was set to ten - DH has put it down before he went to bed as we try to remember to do every night during winter, yet even with it being set so low all the radiators were very hot. Obviously will keep an eye case there is a problem with thermostat but had heating all checked just last month so should all be working fine. So going to have to turn it down even lower it seems as don't like hot room to sleep in, prefer to snuggle under 13.5 tog duvet to stay warm.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
