Well, apart from the 'test', the heating has only had to be switched on this afternoon.
Youngest DD mentioned it was a bit cold this morning when getting ready for school, so it's gone on to warm up the house for her, otherwise, me and the DH would have waited.
It was at 14.5, currently showing 18 and hopefully, it will be switched off after dinner.
Not bad going, so well done to all if you have managed so far.

  • Not on yet but sure it will be soon. I'm sure I usually have the heating on by September. Amazed I've survived this long and it's fine so far.

Mine is still off, and has only been on for me to test it so far this year.  I'm challenging myself to see how long I can keep it off.  Only rule is that I can't be cold - its okay if I'm just up, or just settled down and it takes a little while to get warmed up, but I must be nice and toasty once I've settled with my layers and blankets.  If I am sitting there having tried everything and still freezing then on it will go. So far its working fine and my house is NOT well insulated.

  • My friend dropped in for coffee yesterday afternoon and immediately told me my living room was freezing ,I wouldn’t want anyone to ever be uncomfortable in my house so turned the thermostat up to 20,she then informed me that her house is always set at 23 degrees!!
I didn’t feel like such a cheapskate after that! 😀
  • Mine has been coming on for less than an hour in the early morning & at 5pm when i get home. Thermostat set to 18c as I’m usually moving around doing stuff or cooking & I’ll wear jumpers a lot.
I turn it up to 20c if I’m sat reading or watching TV.

Not had to put any extra blankets on the bed yet either. It’s been mild but getting chilly this week.
  • We held out until 1st November with the central heating and just a few hours each evening so far and it's off now. I have a couple of blankets and a hot water bottle to keep me warm until bedtime.

I too am challenging myself to see how long I can avoid putting the heating on.  My thermostat says it’s 15.5 so it’s definitely put a cardigan or pullover  on sort of temperature but I’m finding it quite ok - and if i go out for a walk or bike ride it actually feels really warm when I get back.

I am wearing two fleeces and two pairs of trousers, one of which is lined.
  • Ours is now on - well pone storage heater anyway. The thermometer showed under 18 degrees indoors when we got home on Sunday and beyond that it will start getting damp and affecting the fabric of the building so heater one is on and will start reversing things hopefully! Oil filled rad in the evenings to boost the temperature while we're just sitting and will review heater 2 going on over the next few days.
