Glorious morning here in the midlands & all windows open, bit chilly out of the sun though.
Mrs E is out all day minding children on a school trip ( outdoor forestry thing) so may have to light the stove tonight.
  • So what's the general consensus on on all day, or on and off at periods through the day?

I set the thermostat to come on at under 19 degrees and it goes off at 9pm.In proper winter it comes on under 21 degrees.

Mine is set for 19 degrees all winter, it’s on for an hour in the morning, then between 5 and 8pm at night but it will turn itself off once it hits 19 so will not be on all that time.
It’s still off at the moment, just wrapping up in throws and lighting candles at night , no light needed watching tv or on tablet. Blinds/curtains shut as soon as dusk .
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Ours is set at 18 mainly, all year round but gets turned down to 16 during winter days when back door left open for dogs - which we try to have open most of the day if dry.  Yesterday it was so wet and cold it was coming on at 13 - I had turned it down to 16 as house was warm and back door was closed but was still coming on so kept turning it down until it clicked off -   Its weird how it happens - times when we are warm yet heating is coming on below 18 and other times we feel house is cold yet heating not coming on, so we will put it on 21 for an hour to as I put it ' heat the corners' then back down to 18 and that can be fine for days or weeks during winter.

Today not on is as such a beautiful sunny day - technically temp is 11 but in the sun its hot and house is so warm even with all windows and back door wide open.  Will become chilly when dusk arrives but will go around and close windows and back door just before it does so hopefully house will stay warm.

We've had to put it on the last couple of nights for showers, the bathroom is already very damp and it's a constant battle to keep it at bay, despite spending ridiculous amounts on 'damp proofing '.
  • Switched it on today and set the thermostat to 17 and the radiators all came on for a while.

Ours has been put on this evening with the thermostat set at 18 where it stays all through the colder months.

  • 15.8 deg here right now - not had heating on since the spring.
but have taken hot water bottle to bed for 17 nights this month so far
  • Not on here. Still putting on extra layers of clothing or covering with blankets. Don't even know if it works as hadn't been on since the spring and not had a service in years. It's so old I'm afraid they will condem it  if I get a service.
