No heating for us yet. Here in "sunny" Somerset my max/min thermometer (outdoors) has only failed to reach 20 degrees on a couple of days so far. Lowest night time temp has been 8 degrees. We still have all the bedroom windows open 24/7 and my back door is open 9am til 6pm. A couple of chilly evenings have meant I've put on a fleece or jumper but I'm still wearing sandals - when I have to resort to proper shoes I'll admit to summer being over!

I don't have romantic memories of being cold as a child - it was blooming miserable. I can remember laying out my clothes on my bed at night - partly for the extra warmth, and partly so I could get dressed under the covers in the morning. We eventually got an electric bar heater in the bathroom, but it was up near the ceiling (my parents know naff all about physics) so I used to get dressed by standing on the toilet seat and holding each garment up to the heater.

You know what? Nowadays we have two wages coming in, a decent standard of living and it's the 21st century. I'm chronically ill and if I want the heating switched on I will b***** well turn it on. I refuse to shuffle round in 20 jumpers and bedsocks if I don't have to. Luckily this flat is usually warm so I can manage for a little while longer.

I have every sympathy for anyone who struggles with their heating bills but personally I say three cheers for central heating and zippity doo dah because I can afford it at last! :j

Fine without heating last night. The slow-cooking hotpot warmed us inside and out. Keeping warm is also down to food we eat and hotdrinks as well as the clothes we wear

Just an advance note: I heard that the weather in feb/march is going to be devastatingly cold, colder than it has been for a very long time. This weather at the moment is not really cold at all but it is probably the damp and grey that is affecting people and I think much of it is psychological. We could, as a nation, do with a reminder on how to dress up for the colder weather

Just a note re the forthcoming nasty stuff: I am going to sort the summer/winter clothes out today and I`ll make sure that I know where I have stored the warm tights/long johns/vests etc. My cupboard will have enough of the warming food which doesn`t need a lot of energy to cook ie porridge, lentils etc. Candles and matches need to be stashed away and I already have vaccuum flasks. Ok I know it is early but when it`s done it`s done

Really bad weather usually means power cuts and sometimes for days

Well Im in south Wales UK adn i can tell you it was a bit chilly again last ngith but my LO went to bed the same , had a bath, in his jammys then cuddeld up under his duvet and fleece blanket with his teddy. He doesnt seem to be feelign the cold so i think we can manage a little bit longer with no CH on. Liek i said hopefulyl the house move will go ahead soon and then i will start putting my reserve gas on that meter ready for the really cold months we have ahead.

Not got mine on yet but I think it will be on soon. I had day off yesterday and due to car troubles couldnt go out. Had loads of jobs to do but after they were finished I was lazily watching tv and was absolutely freezing. Put on socks , fleece then wrapped a duvet round me and was fine but it seems that once i was actually just sitting down for longer than 10 minutes the cold just crept in on me and couldnt get rid of it.

I cant remember the last time we had a power cut, not one due to bad weather anyway.

I have forgotten how cold my council bungalow can be:eek: It's built in concrete, with supposed cavity insulation.

Woke up this morning with an icy 3 year old in my bed:rolleyes:
I might have to put the storage heater on in her room tonight:o It breaks my MSE heart, but I can't have the little one getting too cold. The problem is no matter how warm her duvet is, she just kicks it off:rolleyes: then wakes up cold.
