Back from a break visiting family in Scotland and the temperature in London feels positively balmy! Cool in the house but perfectly ok to stay ch-free for the time being.

Funny conversation at DH's office, as his colleagues were discussing just this topic. When one of them proclaimed (as if this was a great feat) that he would stick it out till at least 1st October, they all shook their heads. DH just calmly said that our cut off point is always 1st November. People were disbelieving. Am so proud of him!

People think we are weird, that we put ourselves through hardship unnecessarily. But then they go into massive debt and pile up on the credit card to buy things that we find useless and redundant (eg a TV the size of the back wall).

It is good to be on this forum among people who feel the same like we do.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Just back from two weeks in N/East England and it's been very warm, thought I'd feel it cold back home in N/East Scotland but not at all. If it continues like this the heating will be off for a long time yet!

Mine has been on a few times this week, usually just for half an hour, and only the towel rail to dry towels and one radiator in the lounge.

Still got most of the windows open and the back door when i'm in. I am closing off the conservatory doors now at night as I can feel the colder air in there coming into the rest of the house.

I am hoping to keep it out of use in the main for a few more weeks yet, I am aiming for November if I can.....the menopause will help....lol.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

  • Heating is still off and, courtesy of the excellent insulation in this property, I'm sitting here in a T-Shirt.
  • It's a beautiful morning here, sat in a t shirt, patio and kitchen doors doors open and heating still off. The back of my bungalaw gets the sun all day, so the living room and kitchen are very warm, bedrooms on the front much cooler though

  • It's a lovely day here as well so the Windows are open and the washing will go out when it's done. The heating hasn't been on yet but I don't like being cold too much, I have an old sleeping bag at the side of the settee to snuggle under if needs be and it hasn't happened yet. If it gets too cold during the day I have a small halogen heater that will go on for a bit as I have solar panels, but I still keep a good eye on the meter when/if I do. Trying to cut right back now so I can be warm when it really gets cold and then it won't push next year's dd up (this year's hasn't changed thank goodness)still reading meters every week to keep a check on them

  • No Central heating on yet, but I did light the woodburner a couple of times last week. I've got a lot of off cuts to use up, so it didn't feel too non-frugal (or maybe I'm just making excuses....).
