Macgirl's "I Can Do Anything....If I Put My Mind to it" Diary

Good Morning
The last day of 2010 and a time for reflection. I'm happy that I achieved my goal of moving house - it is such a happy place and already feels like home - I think we'll be here for a long time. We have space to grow and to breathe - the other house was slowly suffocating me. And although there are things we want to change so it feels more like "us", I feel patient and calm, because I know there is time and it will get done.
EDIT: *AND* I ran the Great North Run!:j:j:j Almost forgot as we moved house a few days later - but I'd wanted to do it for years and the sense of acheivement was immense. I was buzzing for days
Moneywise, it has been a slow plod on the debtbusting front, mainly due to moving. The important thing is that I have changed my spending habits. I no longer buy on impulse, but consider what I'm buying and 9 times out of 10 can walk away. That's a major achievement for me and hopefully will stop me getting into debt in the future. Then amazingly and out of the blue, I received the news of a windfall that will change my financial status really soon and make me debt free!!! :j It felt like a dream, a lottery win, something that only happens to other people, but I guess the Universe reckons it's my time
So looking forward to 2011. I want to lose weight and that mission has already started. I want to be around for my kids - that is my greatest fear in life, so I'm making changes. I don't need to join a diet club, either virtual or real, I know what to do to lose weight and the "shame" method doesn't work for me - I have to be self motivated and this time I really am.
I've been running twice this week and will go again this morning. This evening we are going to stay over at a friend's with the kids. There will be 12 of us and it should be fun, a curry and drinks and chat with good friends to see in the New Year, then a long walk tomorrow, followed by a pub lunch.
So my MSE friends, thank you for all your support, encouragement and kindness this year, I truly treasure the friends I have made on this site and wish you all everything you wish for yourselves in abundance in 2011 xxx0 -
Happy New Year macgirl, this new diary is testament to how much you've done.

What a lovely post - and thank YOU for your support this year too - on a personal level, it has been invaluable to me and I am very grateful.

Thanks you 2 :kisses3:
Well I'm just nipping on to share that I went for a run - 6 miles :j though I walked a couple of times - NOT happy about that! It was hard, really hard and I do feel out of shape.
But I haven't really been regularly since the Great North Run, so I should expect to build up slowly again. And I *have* been 3 times this week, which is my goal
Done a few errands and now I am going to iron every last morsel in the house, so I can start the New Year at Zero. Then a quick blitz of the house, a bath for the kids, shower and hair done for me and we're off.
Hope you are all doing something nice this eveningx

What a lovely post, macgirl, and what a lovely year for you - except your aunt, I hope she's getting better, even if slowly. Well done on the six miles, and frankly well done on buying the desserts, tho your recipe on the previous page sounds fab!
I'm so pleased to have met you this year properly - and pleased for you that 2011 will see you debt free in your lovely house.
Have a wonderful New Year's Eve house party.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Happy New Year Macgirl
Hope you had a lovely evening with your friends last night:beer:Payment A Day £15 (started 17/5/14) :j0 -
Evening Folks and :hello: boysma - nice to see you
Happy New Year! Thankfully I woke without a hangover, so a result considering all the champers we drank and the dancing games on the Wii we battled
It was a lovely evening and then today we went for a long - and a bit too muddy walk - then were rewarded with a pub lunch.
The kids hit the sack early and I've just had a nice piece of Lemon Meringue Pie for tea(I'm still in holiday mode and am running in the morning - honest)
I'm going to enjoy the last 2 days of holiday by pottering, then will start my life changes for this year. I really want to learn to play the piano, but the one we have needs tuning, then I need to find a teacher. I'd also like to have some acupuncture - just for enhancement rather than to cure anything, my sister swears by it and I fancy taking better care of myself and my stress levels this year. Running of course and also home improvements! (if DH read that he'd do a long eyeroll :rotfl:)
I'm itching to get started making the place our own, but am mindful that we need to allow the finances to settle into a regular pattern in this house and then tackle the stonking mortgage. I calculated that overpaying £100 a month we will knock £36k off the interest - so that's very motivating.
Right that's enough for now, will have a mooch and catch up later x0 -
Wow .... £100 a month = £36k less interest? Wow!
Your post is lovely, from the lemon meringue pie to learning to play the piano (well, maybe not OH's eyerollbut all the rest of it :j

I love playing with the overpayment calculator on here - the difference in interest saved is amazing when compared with the "relatively" small amount of overpayment - I just love it and it is definitely something that I look foward to attacking myself this year
By the end of this year, our houses will be as we want them, I am sure of that - and we will enjoy making them that way tooSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
