Right, leaves raked from lawn (again), drive swept and kind hubby took the lot to the tip! :T

I've identified a little cabinet I'm going to "upcycle" with paint and some wallpaper I have. It'll fit in with the French Shabby chic look I'm developing all over the house due to lack of funds, old furniture and one large pot of paint :rotfl:

I've also listed 2 kids beds and 2 bed guards on Ebay - Free Listings day Whoohoo!!!

    Hi macgirl,

glad your day has gone well. I really need to put my glasses on when reading now, wondered what '2 kids in bed' had to do with Ebay.

Lol - Wish I'd have thought of listing them!

Morning all, hope all's well wherever you are. It's a lovely sunny day here again - but very cold.

Plan for today is swimming with the girls, then a trip to the garden centre to finish the window boxes I started 2 weeks ago, then painting the cabinet.
I have to transfer some cash from our joint account to cover money DH spent on moving and do some filing - groan :o
In and amongst, there will be ironing, washing and making fishcakes for tomorrow and Roast for today.

A busy day again then! But it nearly all sounds like nice stuff, actually. And HM fishcakes sound particularly nice - what do you put in with the fish?

    Morning KC - hope you're well :)

I use a mixture of Delia's and Nigella's recipes - well they were used as a starting point!

Poach some smoked haddock, remove bones and flake (I sometimes use Salmon)
Boil and roughly mash some potatoes - I use Roosters (as recommended by my Irish Mother and potato connoisseur) and allow to cool
Then add about a tablespoon of mayonnaise, shake of cayenne pepper, black pepper, chopped parsley and spring onions (I have to leave these out due to DD1)

Then beat one egg, add a bit to the mix to bind (though sometimes the mayo is enough)
Take a handful of the mixture and make into a pattie, then dip in the egg, roll in flour and breadcrumbs (I always throw a few oats in for extra crunch and health factor ;))
Fry in olive oil for a few mins each side, then in the oven for about 20 minutes. I often have a few left over and they do freeze well.

I eat them with salad, or usually in our house - with baked beans - yummy! :D

Sounds good! I could use quorn instead of the fish, or soybeans ....

    Oh I am procrastinating to B*ggery :o

I MUST do the blessed ironing but am psyching myself up on here first. Excuses, excuses.

We've had a great day today. Took the kids to the Sculpture Park and went running down hillsides and playing hide and seek among the sculptures. We came home happy and the girls were ruddy cheeked and full of laughter :)

I read Firewalker's thread this morning and have been thinking about it, along with DT's desires to be rich. I put this next to my admission about feeling aimless earlier in the week.
I've come to realise that far from striving for some*thing* I need to cherish and nuture my family and good times like today. To be in pursuit of "stuff" whether it be a house, money, new sofa, chandelier (I want soooo many nice things - is that so wrong?! :o) - is not what my life needs right now. I need BALANCE.

Debt freedom has been confirmed and is on the horizon (sorry if that sounds cryptic, there are reasons for that), so I can relax - a bit.

DH has real concerns about the future of his business, though not because it's not really successful - it is. He realises that he does not have the cold heart of a ruthless businessman and his partner has. It does not sit lightly with him. Today he has talked about preferring to work in B&Q and help people sort out their plumbing etc.

So moneywise, the mortgage is the next target, but perhaps also savings and investments.

Added to that I need to try and reduce stress and do more for me. I had my legs waxed on Friday, so that was a start! But I was annoyed at myself for spending almost 30 quid, when I could have done it myself for 5

Anyway, that's it for today. Have a good week to anyone reading x

Hi Macgirl, it sound like today you had a great day. And guess what? I have always thought and said that our children and our time with them should come first. I have also always done long hours work (not proud of it - rather the reverse) but I did it when Little Boy was in bed.

And probably it is time for you to be a bit nicer to yourself - having your legs done is a great start. Stopping beating yourself about procrastinating is probably another - have you allowed for the possibility that you are tired and need to relax a bit? As to being aimless - well the way I see it, it is not about aims really. It is more about whether 'things happen to us' or 'we make things happen'. You can reverse the relationship at anytime - and it looks like most of the time you do. We can make different things happen - it is not only, or even mainly, about being rich.

    Take care
    Firewalker
