Hi macgirl! I'm finally finding new diaries of people I know sooner than a couple of months ... happy new diary! Whats the house like that you've moved to? With my move in August, I found that there were lots of fiddly bits I needed to do that I hadn't realised....

  • Hello Macgirl :hello:

I have at long last registered on MSE, to enable me to order Memory Girls book ... but I'm now popping into all the diaries that I follow to say 'hello'.

I love reading your diary and often wonder how on earth you have the energy to do everything that you do! I certainly couldn't manage it all.

I was sooo happy for you when I read that your offer had been accepted on your dream home, and now that you've moved in and everyone seems settled is fab.

Looking forward to reading about your plans for your house .... we've been in our dream home for 1 year now; it's an ongoing project and we're still as excited as we were when we moved in :D

Good luck on your journey to become debt free.

    Bye for now.

Oh, I nearly forgot ... hope the cleaning went well

Hello Se, nice to see you, KC (welcome :)) , Littlesportscar (love that username :D), thanks for your kind comments and Sashy, always a pleasure x

KC, the house is a large listed Victorian Semi. Thankfully all done, beautiful oak floors, bags of original features, but no major renovations to do (much to DH's relief as he did everything to our old house; rewired it, new kitchen, new bathroom etc etc. We're now renting that out and have mortgaged ourselves to the hilt to do so....:o:o:o) Luckily, he is much better with money than me and has asked me, repeatedly in a nice, but firm manner - NOT to spend anything for the next few months "until the money settles down".
    I have agreed :A

Of course, I want to redecorate, as I am a designer and have loads of ideas, but we have years, so I have to do a Yoda "Patient I must become" *sigh*.
There are things that you don't notice until you move in. For instance, there are no towel holders/radiators, the kitchen - though fairly large - has virtually no workspace and the storage is not great. These can all be sorted, in time.
The plumbing will need attention at some point. It sounds like the QE2 is coming into dock when the bath taps or shower are turned off  Not good and probably expensive....

Today I feel absolutely exhausted. Every muscle, bone and fibre are aching and I'm sooooooooo tired. We finally finished the other house last night. I came home at 9pm to relieve my Mum of babysitting duties. DD1 was still up waiting for Strictly to start - we're big fans in this house - I even managed a "Cha-Cha-Cha" much to her amusement!

DH was at the house until about midnight. Despite all the decluttering we still had 4 car loads to remove and dump here  Gutted.
I've been determined not to leave the unpacking for months, so have been doing a few boxes every night. I even set myself a deadline by putting the boxes and packing paper on Freecycle for collection this weekend to kick me up the 'arris.

So, I've been so pleased to make headway and the place started to look like home (albeit without curtains :o). This morning it looks like we've just moved in. Boxes are littering the kitchen and hall and to be honest, I have no energy to move them today. DH has gone over to the other house to take delivery of the new fridge freezer - I think he also wants to see out tenant for himself - then he's off to the tip.

We had the carpet fitted in the attic yesterday and they made a c*ck up of it. I'm so  about it. It was obviously cut wrong, so the fitter has tucked it under where it should have wrapped around the edge of the floorboards. A bit difficult to explain if you haven't seen it, but suffice to say the floorboards are still visible, where they should be covered. *sigh* Why is nothing ever simple? I'm going to complain, but I doubt it will get me anywhere.....

Today is a mad dash of ballet, swimming lessons, and 2 kids parties, as well as washing etc. The man who is collecting the boxes has just rang to say he's on his way so better shake a leg.

Have a good day all and will catch up later xx
