A bit of a different angle on this one, GOD I'd better get the punctuation correct!!!!!!! You have to offer PP as a means of payment but always, always put cash on collection/delivery. I've known PP take money back after six months, so be warned, and stop moaning about the chaps punctuation, its not an exam!!!!!0

The address that you got through from paypal to send the goods, have you checked it out on google maps, see what the actual address is, one a little while ago was I think a guest house.
That was the £2000 LED Tv thread, where he paid via bank transfer..
I pretty much gave him everything apart from actually travelling there myself and knocking on the door.

there is a picture called "Me" here with a name and surname:

I didn't really look much into it and it's "pacmania1982" rather than "pacmania82", I thought was from the US but the the keyboard of the netbook on one of the other pictures has what it looks like a UK keyboard.
Adsingleton: does that face ring a bell..?
OP should drop this info into facebook, and start looking around friends of said person, then to see if a face fits.0 -

yes, and "right-click" and "save as" the pictures just in case they realise "pacmania82" is being discussed on here and decide to take offline pics and info. The 2nd entry on Google for pacmania82 is the MSE.Alias_Omega wrote: »OP should drop this info into facebook, and start looking around friends of said person, then to see if a face fits.*_*_* Department of Redundancy Department *_*_*0 -

As per the rest of the thread on ebay you cannot refuse paypal if offered. I know people keep saying that you cannot refuse Paypal for collected items but what would happen if you did ?
If the buyer is genuine then they 'should' be ok with it and if they kick up a stink then why ? If they can get to your house then they can get to a bank surely.
What's the worst that Ebay could do to a seller if they refused Paypal ?
Is the only safe alternative to say to a buyer that he/she can't pick up for 21 days or whatever ?0 -

The worst that can happen is that a genuine buyer (a scammer would probably not push too hard) who maybe wants to put a high end item on a card can no longer afford item. He therefore puts in a non performing seller complaint and leaves a neg saying seller refuses to sell . Seller still has FVFs to pay and has lost their listing fees. A neg, low stars and a NPS complaint may be enough for a small seller to get a temporary suspension.
As for the 21 days, I'n not at all sure what you think that might achieve?
The only way to be 100% safe is to not sell collection only items on ebay, use small ads or cards in shop window instead. I do still sell a very small amount of collection only items, but only cheap enough that I can afford to lose them if it does go wrong. I haven't been caught yet, but i understand and accept the risk.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ebay and paypal should be held accountable due to the fact they accept paypal on collection items. This should be stopped.
Its a scammers dream, and ebay/paypal know this but dont give a shat. Just look at the extra money hes paid with phone calls alone, plus the fees. They are disgusting.
But dont expect to get much sympathy here, a lot of the big posters are pro ebay and paypal and dont want to give them a bad name as they use them to make a living.
Im not a troll, but rarely post here due to all the negative and clever remarks when you ask for help.
good luck anyway
sorry for my bad English0 -
You can stop ebay and paypal and this Catch22 situation..just sell your heavy goods somewhere else. After all think about it logically, if these are collection only then it is very likely that the buyer is going to be fairly local..so you don't need UK wide exposure on ebay, local ads or county wide newspaper ads should be sufficient.
Unfortunately if you do want the benefit of massive exposure with ebay you have to play by their rules. Alternatively use a UK wide auction site that doesn't have these rules or even a local bricks andmortar house.
before ebay people still had large and heavy things to sell, so are ebay really that big now that we consider them to be the only place in the whole country to sell anything?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If offering a large (collection) item, list it with an appropriate courier price for tracked delivery, whereby payment by PayPal would be acceptable, with an alternative option for cash on collection. If the buyers wishes to pay via PayPal, fine, they pay the appropriate (trackable) delivery costs.
It is then the buyer's choice. They either pay appropriate postage/delivery charges and have the item delivered, or they collect for free. No ambiguity, both buyer and seller know where they stand.
In other words, if you wish to pay via PayPal, it will cost you the delivery charge. Cash on collection? Exactly what it says, pay the item price and no more.0
