October Ebay Challenge

Well, October's second week of ebay malarkey ends tomorrow night (I always end my auctions around post-tea-time Sunday night) and it's on £46.28 right now, hoping for a few 'snipers' tomorrow eve! :D That'll add to last week's total of £20.

I'm a bit of a geek in that I do a LOT of wargaming and thus have piles of old Games Workshop models and plastic kits which are always in strong demand on ebay - one out of production set went for £60 to a very nice chap in Deutschland last month. I always make sure my items are visible as 'will post worldwide', my average sale price must have gone up by 50% since I started shipping worldwide and I help reduce the UK's trade deficit! Double result, woot! (This does rather negate the sense of finishing auctions at tea-time, but seeing as it's difficult to match tea-time New Zealand with tea-time Florida, I might as well help myself).

I also start all my auctions at £0.99 regardless of actual value as people will often bid on the off-chance they get a bargain. After that, most ebayers are more likely to bid on something that already has bids on - not rational, but they do. Then you just have to hope that two people on opposite sides of the planet both REALLY want that item... let the bidding war begin! (that only works where you know more than one person will want the item)

Wow, I love Ebay so much...

I've had a look, but couldn't find a challenge for October so here it is.

I made just over £70 last month, which I was really pleased with. I have just bought a new car and it is current sat on a 0% credit card until next August so have just over £6,500 to pay off as soon as possible. Ebay is going to be the main way of making extra money, although I'm using Quidco, Ciao, Mutualpoints ets as well.

I have just relisted the unsold items from last month and will behaving a hunt around for the next lot of things I can find to list in the coming weeks.

    Who's in??
Welsh lassie,Could you please enlighten me about the e-bay?plus whats Quidco and Ciao, I placed 27 items on ebay and none sold, finished with a BLL for £98-00 has put me off abit,as Im still a learner, thanks clearvisor

That seems a bit harsh, you should check your invoice as it shouldn't come to that much.

My listing usually come to around 35p, the highest amount was £1.95 but only as that one had numerous pictures with it.

How much was each individual listing that you did?

£98 for 27 items? They must have had a high starting price? I find the best way to shift things is to start your at a low price and that generates more interest and bidding competition. If you want we can have a look at some of your listings that didn't sell and give you some tips for future.

How often do you recommend transferring money from your paypal account? I suppose it is a trade-off between wanting to use it to repay debt but also not wanting to incur fees? Does paypal charge a fixed amount per transfer or is it a percentage?

    Thanks

Eek! That's an appalling amount! My uncle did something similar with Turbolister accidentally - he clicked the 'featured gallery' by accident for hs items, costing him £15 for ten items instead of £1.50. They were very visible, but still didn't sell - I guess no-one wanted Hag Stones that week! :D I would imagine you;ve doen something similar Clearvisor. Best thing to do is check before postmg the item on ebay, VERY CAREFULLY - it should say, though it's often very small print!

eBay's help atricles are fairly good:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/ebayexplained/index.html

I generally withdraw from Paypal every time it hits £50 - but that's because I know there'll be more coming in soon. If you know there's a little more coming soon but you;re not going to be selling for a while, I'd wait. At the same time, I usually make sure there's a little there, just in case I want to buy something so it doesn't take a week for the money to get to the seller.

Incidentally, this week's junk ended at £88.55 and next week's already has bids on. w007!
