    all looking pretty good though
  • Thanks Taxi that weightloss is looking good girl well done :j:j

Well the war of the roses has been fought today and despite a few skirmishes that went the roses way the final battle was won by us:D

As is always the case with these things once we started removing the vegetation we discovered that the pergola needs more work than a repaint we knew that we needed to insert a couple of support posts which were not possible before because the gas tank was in the way but now this has gone they can be inserted this will strengthen the middle section of the pergola the rest of the structure is fine but all the trellis will have to come off and be replaced but in fact this will make the paint job easier and a better job as we will be able to access all the support posts so my blue pergola is now possible and should look really smart. I don't expect the roses or clematis to survive so will have to choose replacements. I found the instructions for the clematis it said lightly prune in early spring :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: depends on your definition of light :D

Quick cuppa and then we have a fence to temporarily support as it blew down and we need new support posts but it is quite a big job so will have to wait until after payday so we need to do something to cover the next couple of months it is behind the garage where the veg patch is so I will have to be brave and see how bad that area is - I know it is not going to be good:eek:

  • Well the demon of the veg patch has been faced and although it is bad it could have been worse:(. The greenhouse needs a good clear out and we have a lot of vegetation that will need to be burnt as it is not compostable but there isn't a lot of room for a fire so will have to be very careful we have done it before with the hosepipe at the ready just in case. So we need a spell of good weather so we can get these jobs done plus the work on the pergola but it will make a big difference to the garden when it is done.

The fence however is  and can't wait as it will end up costing more and will be more difficult to do once the fruit trees start to grow so will have to be done now and the money will have to go on a CC :o I will have a look at what 0% deals I have and see how best to do it but needs must it is really bad.

I am off for a bath now not so much to think (although no doubt some thinking will take place) but to ease the aches and pains that I have from the efforts of today :D

  • That little lot made me tired just reading it. We have had lovely weather here too today, in fact DS makes a point of noting it when he gets in from work at 8am - as in "clear skies over Anglesey, heading our way" or " its chucking it down over Anglesey, so we'll get it later". I know you're not exactly there, but its our nearest point of reference :p

Wow, what a mental shift you've had these last few weeks! I love your energy about moving to the other side of the country :T Where there's a will......
Lol at the Lotus factory :rotfl: and I'm sure the pruning will produce beautiful blooms :)

We are as near there as makes no difference I can see Anglesey from my bedroom window and Llandudno and Penrhyn Castle. Can you see why we would be mad to leave here really :(

I can drive to Anglesey in less than 10 minutes. We are a mile from the sea and the mountains are at our rear.

I am afraid there will be no blooms unless I plant new plants the pruning turned into a massacre

But I will have a beautiful new blue pergola perhaps I should go for the minimalist effect there too and do without the plants;)

Well, as long as the plants are still in the ground, I'd imagine that you *will* see something. I checked up on my MiL by cross referencing her advice with Alan Titch. He cut his roses to virtually the ground, as MiL did with my shrubs. Now it has buds galore!

The only thing to add is to put some compost around the roots - after the "massacre" :)
  • What a busy day! Love the thoughts on the Lotus factory, plus you have Snetterton Race Circuit (I'll shut up now ;))
