  • I use quick 30 for most of my dark washes as long as there are not too muddy and normal 30 for the muddy washes adn the lights whites unless really bad i do on the 40 wash now rather than 60.

I am finding that i keep getting marks fromteh washing powder on the clothes though,i have a big washing machine and always fill it so use a big scoop of powder but 1/2 the washes are getting marks and have to be washed again.

any ideas does any one else get this?

See my post earlier today, number 34. It works for me and may sort out your residue problem too.

I do pretty much all clothes at 30 although the fast wash in my machine defaults to 40 so I use that if I'm in a hurry. The only thing I do higher is the bedclothes and towels and even then it's often only at 40 since I think 60 is much harder on the fabric and harder to iron as well. I'll do a 60 whites maybe once a month or so just in case.

BTW I forgot to put any washing powder or conditioner in the other day and everything came out fine (tho I dried on the line which always helps)

    Hiya
I do everything at 30 degrees. I don't have a problem with powder not disolving but, after advice on here, use half the amount recommended. Clothes are always clean and myself and my son's excema has really cleared up. One thing I have noticed is the programme lasts over an hour. In the states, where my sister lives, the washing programme lasts about 20 minutes which has got to be more economical and environmentally friendly.

  • Through reading these threads I've just started to use 30 degree wash on certain loads, generally those with only mildly dirty clothes rather than those with heavily stained items.
Did all my sofa covers yesterday and used less powder and really pleased with the results.
From now on all my washes (cept the really grubby clothes one) will be at 30 degrees, hopefully it will knock my electric bill down a bit!

I happily stopped washing stuff at 60 when we were bombarded by ads, but now they've upped the ante to 30! I think it's a bit far... it gets to 30 degrees on a summer day, it doesn't seem hot enough to wash stuff.

I'm another one who's WM doesn't do a 30° wash, it's got numbers as well, 7 is 40°, 5 is 60°. I swapped to 40° always did a 60° wash before, but have found no matter what powder I use if I top has a greasy/oily stain it doesn't wash out at 40°!!! Split rose geranium oil on a lovely blue top and the 'stain' is still there. Other than uping the washing temp or using some of those 'vanish' like chemicals has anybody got a cheap and effective grease removing solution at 40° or less?

I wash most things on the 15 minute quick wash in my new Bosch machine and they seem fine.

I'm not sure of the temperature as it's not shown in the "Consumption Values" section of the manual.

However, a 60 degree Cotton wash takes 1.20 kWh and 70 litres of water and lasts 1 hr 35 minutes.

The Easycare 40 degree Short programme takes 0.55 Kwh and 40 litres of water and lasts 55 minutes.

Interesting to see the vast difference in electrical and water consumption.

my washer doesnt have a 30c wash. it goes to 40 and then cold...
seems to be only newer machines that have the 30c wash and as much as it maybe environmentally friendly its not very money sving to buy a new washer so i can have a 30c wash!! so i wont be getting a new one till this one gives up (hope i've not jinxed it now :))
