  • you have to be actually buying (paying monthly) channels from sky to get this. if like me you have the free channels but using a sky box and dish you can't have it so I def feel cheated. I had a row with sky and withdrew my subscription (prices were being put up without me being informed plus they charged me for an extra month saying that they never got my notice! they have done this to me before!) After xmas when i can afford it im going for freesat!!!!
  • I can confirm that I have a valid white Sky viewing card and can get Sky Three and Five USA etc but am not a Sky subscriber and I have not got any access to Sky Movies Showcase today but just a screen with an offer to upgrade at https://www.sky.com/moviesoffer or by pressing the red button.

When I go to the https://www.sky.com/moviesoffer page I get the message:-
From the information provided, it appears you may already be a Sky TV customer, or have previously had Sky at this address.

If you don't have a Sky account and haven't done in the past, you can continue with your order and we'll be in touch if there are any problems. Alternatively, call us on 08442 411 817.

However there is an OK button to press if you think you have never been a subscriber. They then kindly give you the opportunity on their website to join Sky costing at least £19.50 per month for even one Mix. So all six Mixes now cost £24.50

So when the Dakar rally or Le Mans comes is shown on British Eurosport do I pay Sky £19 for a month for one Mix and have all the massive hassle and phone call cost of subscribing to Sky for a month and desubscribing (which usually makes it impossible to only subscribe for a month due to all the usual Sky runaround about unsubscribing) or do I subscribe to the Eurosport player for a month for only £3.99 and then use either a Maestro card (where their auto renewal facility for the sub does not operate) or just cancel the sub on day 1 online with no pain or arguments with call centre staff (if using Visa, Mastercard etc) and then continue viewing for the rest of the month at £3.99

As I don't watch in HD and I hate dealing with Sky call centre staff to me the answer is a no brainer.

Just a niggle that if someone e.g. Sky, is paid on a regular basis ( even if it is every 5 years ), that technically means that you are a subscriber & that therefore you should qualify for any benefits.

Looks like recorded films are still viewable today - Mall Cop (!) can still be viewed this morning. Not sure about others

From reading up on this - it appears to be only one sure-fire way of making recordings (archiving) Sky movies (without doing this - they will only be watchable for 7 days) - and that is to video tape them first and then to DVD / digtal storage - this bypasses the encryption but also the quality will suffer !!

I recorded a few like Bugs Life, Bolt, Mall Cop and Confessions of a Shopaholic all viewable today but I did go through them yesterday and watched the first couple of minutes of each one as somebody posted that they did this before and could watch them after the event!

Just to confuse matters further, we were away over the weekend, so I recorded some of these free films. When I tried to play them yesterday, some worked, but others didn't.

The ones that didn't - did they ask for a PIN? If so thats due to the film's rating I think, supposedly so parents only can access it. It's usually set as the last 4 digits of your viewing card number...

No, they didn't ask for a pin, just said that we needed to upgrade to movies to be able to watch. The one that we couldn't watch was 'the Time Traveller' or something like that.
