In cases like this, they don't send an authorisation code to each card, but set the channel as available to the minimum subscription. By doing it this way, they let minimal subscribers view it and prevent Freesat users seeing it.

What about ex Sky subscribers? Surely they want to entice them to come back?

What happens if you just unplug the phone lead from the sky box ?
How does sky send the kill signal to the box ?

These signals are not delivered via the phone line as I have never had a phone line plugged in and my package is amended regularly, in relation to my ability to afford their products. I can only assume that they adjust your viewing credentials via the Sattelite feed itself. A techie should be able to confirm/deny this.

    Peace, love and sherbert saucers,

When they ran the free movies weekend last year i recorded alot of the films and then watched them a week later without any problems. The reason why you could not watch any of your recorded programs is because when u cancel your sky subscription, sky send a signal to your box telling it to automatically disable all recording and playback features of the box. If you want to use the recording and playback features without having a sky subscription you would have had to pay £9.99 a month. As long as you have a sky subscription u can watch any programs u have recorded. However if u cancel your sky subscription, sky will disable the sky plus features of the box, including the ability to watch recorded programs.

My neighbour did tell me that if you recorded a movie your account would be charged £10, not sure wether to risk recording anything to see if it stays on there. Interesting to to know you can subscribe to the recording feature even if no longer paying for any channels.

Surly this cant be correct? When you join Sky you purchase the Sky box. If there is a fault with the box and it is out of warranty, you have to purchase a replacment.
If they can disable feature on the box, then it must belong to them, otherwise its akin to purchasing a new car from BWM and refusing to get it serviced by them. For this they respond by disabling the engine...

Sorry - but it is more like - you purchasing a second hand Lada - and getting a month free fuel thrown in - then complaining that after the month is up, that you have to pay for the fuel yourself....and if you decide not to pay for the fuel - you aint going very far !!

What you are complaining about is a service - not the actual hardware - you own the hardware yourself
An analogy is MS software - you own the rights (limited) to use the software - but MS actually own it.....
