Oh Dear my cooker went on fire on friday as I was making dinner. The whole dinner was ruined- so waste of food. The cooker has not been working since then . Last night the electrician got the oven back on but need to buy ( and pay for instillation ) of new hob ! .
I was doing ok. We had to buy chips on friday- had no dinner on saturday and my Oh bought us lunch on sunday. Do I now have to add these to my spend ?
Having to now re-work budget with my limited cooking capacity now- lltough purchased the two hob plate at aldi for £24.99 so will need to keep us goingfor the next month or two, till we cansave up ! Oh, its never ending trying to get debt free. x0 -
Please put me down for £300 for October's Grocery Challenge
I did the first shop of the month, stocked up on quite a bit, did a stock take of my cupboards and spent £602025 - Declutter to Move House
Items Decluttered in 2025: 51
Weight Lost: 0/210 -
Wish our A$da sold the big bags of chappati flour - I get mine in costco or MrT but it is slightly more expensive. I make bread with mine - the flour is finer than most bread flours and I find it makes bread that is very Hovisy - I also add 1tbsp vinegar to the water when making it which seems to make a lovely chewy texture.
Now you've made me curious? Would it work in a bread maker? If so this would by far be the cheapest way of getting bread flour I have found so far. I might make an experimental loaf today. It was a "reduced to clear" deal (but there was a massive pile of sacks).
I don't normally go to ASDALS and this one is so huge that I am a bit afraid of it. If we need things from there I send my husband on his way home from work. He is less susceptible to bargains than me!Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £1100 -
5 days in and i've spent 9 days worth of budget. and off to spend more as want soft drinks for me and yogurts and fruit for dd lunchbox. Going to do the same again this month of allowing myself 7.33 per day of the budget, hence my signature currently being in red as it is higher than this at the moment. 2 freezers currently full of food so about to write mealplan using it.
all the best everyone

First NSD of the month! Need to string a few of these together to get up to 15 this month. But its my daughters birthday at the end of the month so I am picking a bit up here and there.
I was gifted a bag of cooking apples yesterday by a neighbor so spent the day making green tomato and apple chutney, filo apple tarts and today I have made apple bonfire cake. We still have 3 large apples left in the fridge! So I will do a crumble later in the week. I will go foraging today or tomorrow for some more elderberries (for the crumble) and some sloes as I have some vodka left-over from the cherry vodka I made in the spring! It is nice to come back with bags of fruit and not to have got my purse out!!
Have half a squash and some goats cheese in the fridge so off to look for a recipe to go with pasta for tea.0 -

I use my breadmaker, just the normal recipe with the vinigar added, but I never cook bread in it - I use it on dough only, and rise it again and oven cook.
The las 10kg sack I bought was £3.46 in Costco.0 -
Done my Mr T shop and was really pleased that I was well under my £70 target, it cost £49.94. Just to let the rest of you know that there is still something odd going on with Hovi$ bread. This week they are advertised as £1.15 each or 2 for £2 in big bold red and yellow labels, but yet again on my receipt they are being priced at 2 for £1.50 so still 75p each. Just in case anyone is wanting to grab a few extra like me.0

I have a batch baking in the bread maker as I type. I will have to see what it turns out like - if it doesn't work I will try your method. I am very excited about this loaf!Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £1100 -
