  • Hi all

Great to hear from you again, Jo. I hope you have sorted out all the difficult things going on chez Jo and feeling better?

I start my new job tomorrow and absolutely terrified. And of course, drinking wine last night has made me even more anxious - the usual vicious circle.

I WILL NOT BRING ANY MORE WINE INTO THIS HOUSE AND THEN I CANNOT DRINK IT.

Have a lovely Sunday everybody! i'm off to the gym now to try to calm my nerves ...

    xx

  • Jo what a lovely post to read, I wish you all the best on your AF journey and I shall be joining you tomorrow (I know I should say today but for some reason I just can't:o)

    HB ((hugs))

SSG don't worry today is a new day ((hugs))

And more ((hugs)) for anyone who needs them (wish there was a good hug smiley on here!)
  • Morning everyone.

SOS - very best wishes for tomorrow.

Jo - I'd like to join you for a FALSS if I may :)

Failed to be AF last night despite being sure I would be up until about 6 pm. A row with a DS and a very annoying phone call from someone else set me off.

Jo - I've been doing something similar to you and seeing where it all started is certainly helping. Makes me quite angry in a way.
Anyway, understanding it can only be for the good.

Enjoyed the posts by RA, GC and MP last night. Thanks.

SSG - I think RA has given you very good advice. Why dont you give it a try?

  • I've been reading this thread with interest and feel I should post something.

I've gone through what I would call all of the phases of quitting alcohol over the years.

When I first became aware that my relationship with alcohol wasn't 'normal' I tried to cut down. That didn't last.
Then I tried to have days off - like not drinking on Mondays or Tuesdays for example - that didn't last.
Then I'd try to go for extended periods without a drink - first maybe a week or two, then a month, then yes, even a year at a time. That didn't last!
If anything, my problems became compounded because when I gave up for extended periods I always went back to drinking heavier than before I stopped! What was that all about I asked my myself?

I began to believe I was an alcoholic with an incurable disease. I read books, I sought advice. The outlook didn't look good.

In a nutshell, it's been a few years since I last had a drink and I'm an infinitely happier man. A man who is awake in the evening doing things with his kids instead of crashed out on the bed snoring. A man who isn't afraid of life or death. A man in good health who enjoys the here and now. Because I don't drink...

My relationship with alcohol changed for the better when I realised that alcohol is not part of a disease, it isn't a cure for life's miseries, it doesn't even make a first date go better. It's an addictive drug that millions of people find difficult to cope with but don't realise that or are afraid to mention it. Why else would there be a watering hole in every village, town and city throughout the Western World? Because most people can't go a week without their fix. And I'm supposed to believe that they haven't got a problem as well?

Advertisers have spent fortunes creating the Alcohol Illusion. They want people to believe that the game of cricket is better to watch on a Summers day with a cocktail in your hand, or that a certain Ale brings out the cheeky chap in you, or a certain spirit leaves you as cool as Gordon Ramsay and that some lagers apparently will refresh the parts...never mind.

The truth is, alcohol is a poison and it is estimated that as little as 5mg of it would kill anyone on the spot. Our bodies were never meant to cope with such poison, and so if some peoples hearts and minds are rattled by it, that's hardly surprising.

But this you must understand. When you get rid of the brainwashing, the illusions and any feeling of self pity, alcohol is as easy to walk away from as sour milk.

And how badly do you want to drink sour milk?

    Hi Guys,

Sorry that I haven't been about this week but its been one of those weeks.

On Tuesday evening Mr Budgie went into town and parked my car on the road while he nipped into the shop to get some milk, upshot is he was only gone a few minutes.

When he came out some muppet had reversed into my car and damaged the wing, not just a bit of damage it is really stuffed. To cut a long story short it was captured on cctv camera, but they can't see the number plate

Then on Wednesday morning my fil was rushed into hospital. He is ok now but still in as he had to have an operation.

Plus a friends husband has walked out on her after they have been together 33 years. Met at school at aged 13.

    Its been a week.

The good news is that Mr Budgie has an interview tomorrow :)

    Fingers crossed :)

So I have been thinking of everyone, its just that I haven't had time to post.

So love to everyone and I am going to try and read back a little.

    God Bless
    Budgie (()) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Cherish the ones you love and travel back on the road that brings you home :)

  • Thanks for that Charles. What you say sounds very much like what I read in the Allen Carr book "Easy way to control alcohol". Did you read that?
