Wow what a great flurry of fantastic posts. Good to 'see' you Bismark.

When I first started reading this thread it was people like Molly, RA, GC and Bismark who had given up, I'm sure there were a few others too. They showed me, through their posts that giving up wasn't 'square' was nothing to fear, in fact the total opposite it was something that was great. It took a while to convince me!!

If you are reading this thread, and you know in your hearts of hearts that giving up would probably be the best way forward. Give it a go. There really is nothing to fear.

And lastly JO...what can I say! Sending you heaps of love and strength.x

  • Thanks for that Charles. What you say sounds very much like what I read in the Allen Carr book "Easy way to control alcohol". Did you read that?

    Thankyou for being so positive.

I haven't read the book but I have been to the clinic! I found the clinic incredibly useful but I also had some friends who I knew were in AA supporting me at the time as well - and so I don't know who to attribute my beliefs to...

By the way, I quit smoking with the help of Allen Carr all of 18 years ago - so there is a lot to be said for those guys...

And I do have a healthy respect for the AA, even though I don't participate in it. I would say to anyone who's in a mess today or at anytime, get along to AA.

You don't have to stop with what they think - I didn't - but it's a start. And for the most part, there are more good natured people in that environment - with no hidden agenda's - than you'll ever meet anywhere else.

If I can help one person to get rid of the misery called alcohol, I would like to..

  • It took a while to convince me!!
About ten years ago my GP suggested that I went to AA.
I never went as I was in denial about my relationship with alcohol.
It took two months in hospital/rehab for me to accept that I was an alcoholic.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone x
