The Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Support Thread - Numero 9!

I didn't have any major withdrawal symptoms. Sweats, jittery and insomnia. Pale into significance when you look at the benefits. When I finally made the decision to stop it took away all that mental arguing. The decision has been made. My best advice would be to buy the book No Big Deal. Jo posted a link earlier. It helped me a lot.
The physical part for me was easy. It's the mental part that took and still takes the work!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'm no expert shoppy, but from what I've read those symptoms don't look good. Could you see your GP for advice? Or maybe do a controlled reduction in your units if you didn't want to see the doc. Sort of allow yourself a specific, diminishing amount of alcohol each evening to get you out of the danger zone for detoxing.
Alchera, I really do feel for you struggling with a drink problem and coping with a huge changeIn your life. Even so, you can't really waltz into forum threads, 'post from the hip' and not expect there to be consequences (even if done under the influence and we have probably all said something ill advised whilst sloshed).
We've recently had a few ups and downs on this thread and I think everyone just wants a bit of calm and niceness for a while.Trying to keep in budget.

Ok, I'm not AF tonight however my aim (this is so lame!) is to make sure I do take my make-up off etc & properly brush my teeth before my bed.
I know that's such a silly small thing but I need to focus back on this stuff to get my head back together
Am watching UC then going back to Downton Abbey on ITV PlayerI'm such an intellectual :rotfl:

My partner suggested we get an Indian take away in instead of me getting drink. Good idea of his.
Am I allowed to mention that I have a loving partner here or is that frowned upon as insensitive cause some people don't have partners?
Honeybear - what went on before I arrived was not my fault and should not be inflicted on me or any other newcomers. It isn't fair. Most people won't put up with petulant abuse and being ignored by most posters to post here...why should they? There are plenty of other forums on the net...
I haven't found this a friendly place to post at all, but I also don't see why you people should be allowed to drive away people who need support just because you have had problems before...Unfair. Alcoholism and drink problems are supposed to be one of life's great levellers. Seems not to be so here. It's okay if you're poor but not if you have money...

"Evening everyone, I have been reading up on alcoholism today and did a test which indicated that i am alcohol dependant (not really surprised but did feel very ashamed that I have sunk to this level ) I just need some advice please if anyone can help? here goes the confession - I drink usually 5 or 6 days a week (sometimes every day) and usually a bottle of wine sometimes up to two - my question is will it be safe for me just to go cold turkey?"
Please Shopahlictiedknow, DO NOT just give up - this can be very dangerous - alcohol withdrawal can be fatal, with seizures a possibility for the alcohol dependent. I am also dependent, drinking every day approx 2 bottles of wine, and I have tried to give up but have severe withdrawal symptoms - hallucinations, shakes etc. By day two or three this could progress to DTs and seizures with a very high fatality rate. Alcohol withdrawal is the most dangerous form of drug withdrawal, and it is the only type of drug withdrawal which can kill.
I have noticed since joining this thread a week or two ago, that the vast majority of ppl on here are alcohol 'abusers' and can stop without too many issues, perhaps mild insomnia at worst. However there is a big difference if you are alcohol 'dependent' or aka alcoholic as you are both physically and psychologically dependent on it and just going cold turkey can be fatal.
I would strongly advise taking some of the advice you have been given on here with a pinch of salt and going to see your GP asap - they are there to help and deal with all sorts of people with this disease of alcoholism.0 -

And I'm supposed to have known this how?
You don't feel for me at all.
I always have and always will speak and post from the hip. If grown men and women can't take that - then I move on to people who can.0 -
