bear77 and Good Luck. I've put your name on the January Challenge.

Someone on here tried setting a units target instead a while back. Maybe that would suit you? Perhaps alongside a modest AF target?
I count units as well as AFDs. I keep my tally in an AF speadsheet. I always try to stay below govenment guidelines for a woman - 14 units. For a man it's 21.
Fot the year to Oct 2010 I consumed (averagely) 10 units per week and had 5 AFDs per week. Currently, I'm on 14 units per week and 5 AFDs. I'm working hard to get those units back down to around 10 units. What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Morning everyone!
Well I am driving back down South in about an hour (been back home up North for the last 2 weeks or so). So I will be back to reality later today, bah. Back to trying to sell the former marital home, still living with my ex and trying to manage on the tightest budget of my life and being swamped with uni work, LOL!!
1 more AFD please Shaggy!
That makes 7/24 AFDs for me, and there are 17 days left this month including today. I am not having any more alcohol this month, that's it, so it means I can just about make my monthly target if I try really hard. I am doing very well compared to the last few months, so I should give myself a pat on the back for that.
Also, I've very little money from now on and any alcohol I would buy means I could not buy any food for that week, so it just isn't worth it. As you all know, I don't do debt, LOL, so I categorically refuse to go in the red or rack up anything on my credit card that I can't pay off in full at the end of the month. So abstaining is a lifestyle thing, a health thing, a necessary thing and a financial thing. Plenty of incentives there not to drink.!
Take care all and have a nice day.
Big hugs,
Caz

10 afd's for me please Shaggy, thanks
I'm not doing very well this month, I've used up all my allowed AD's now, so must keep the rest of Jan AF now. It was my birthday this week, so there's an excuse, I suppose. Congratulations to all of you who remain completely AF. That Independent article really hit home, I'm afraid - that was me. Nowadays, my teenaged daughters know that Mum and Dad drink wine on Saturdays - I don't know if that's bad or not. At least normally I never drink during the week, and have really, really cut down since joining this thread 2 years ago, but I feel things have been creeping up again this month and this must STOP. My face is looking puffier than it has done for a long time.
I've started running in addition to playing tennis - I decided not to renew gym membership, bought a running tracks CD and downloaded it onto my MP3, and I'm actually really enjoying this. :j
So, here goes, I must get out of this binge drinking which has continued since Christmas and I'm absolutely determined to do it. :j:j
Have a great day everybody!Jan: 24/23 Feb: 21/22 March: 24/250 -

Having made the decision myself that I must be a quitter rather than a cutter downer (as I too was just obsessing about alcohol all the time), can I ask you a question ? How did you cope with the times when you wondered wether you were doing the right thing, the times where you felt like you had become the most boring person in the world or did you never get these feelings ? maybe its just me ?
Hi,
Course I got those feelings that I was the most boring person in the world, staying in most weekends and thinking I would never have good night out again!!
But for me the party, was well over, my drinking friends didn't want to drink with me and I was rarely asked out as I usually ruined people nights out as drinking was my priority, not going out. My drinking usually consisted of me on my own either in my living room, there wasnt anything to miss out on!!! What was vital for me was to get support from other non-drinking people (AA, smart recovery whatever works for you) The power of example worked a treat, I seen and still do see other people out, sober enjoying themselves it fills me with hope that I can do it too.
Every morning when I wake up fresh, with no remorse or regret assures me im doing the right thing.
It is hard in the first few months, but it is acheivable and enjoyable (if it wasnt noone would get and stay sober)
