PLEASE PUT YOUR AFDs IN A BOLD RED FONTWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
3rd AF day today.
I'm so sleepy today although I've been awake since 4am. I need a caffeine fix.;)graemecarter wrote: »The remedy is simple, but by no means easy. Stopping drinking and staying stopped is bloody hard.
It's a deadly illness that not only kills people, but also destroys families and friendships.
Dying of alcoholism is very undignified.
Cravings are not silly - they are deadly.
Totally agree with you there GC.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

10 years ago I rarely drank at home, but over time we started to drink every now and then, then got to practically every night, but always the two of us. Then it got that I drank even when I was on my own and it has gone from being a glass or two, to being much more, and every day. With it being at home I don't think I realise how drunk I am like I do when I go out, because I'm sitting on the sofa not standing in a pub getting slurry speech and wobbling about!
*Jo sits puzzling whether she has been getting up in the middle of the night and posting under a different alias without realising*
Aaagh, that's me that is, exactly me. I think people in my real life wouldn't believe I was an alcoholic too because it was quite possible for me to drink a fraction of what I'd drink in secret when I was drinking socially and be get really quite drunk, at home I could just keep drinking with no effects until I eventually blacked out with no warning. I had a similar drinking past, when I was 21 (now 38) I used to join a crowd in the pub after work and have 2 pints of lager before I went home, this went on for quite a while, then eventually people stopped going for one reason or another, people left for new jobs etc. and there I was having to go straight home from work. Didn't give me anytime at all to get used to the no drinking, I'd buy a couple on the way home to have when I got in, started up a whole new habit. Openly bought 6 for a fiver and drank 2, then it was 3, then it was four, then it was five etc.
4 weeks ago I had been DAILY drinking 6 cans of stella, 1 or 2 cans of guinness and unmeasured swigs from a bottle of vodka, in secret and all between 6pm - 10pm, never less than that, couldn't survive on less than that. The frightening thing is that there are 4 other people in this house and not one person commented on my behaviour, my OH never noticed that I'd been drinking, that is shocking.
I don't wish to get into the old alcoholic debate again, but I will say, that for me, it was a very slow and progressive thing, and that's the nature of it, it's slow and you don't notice the habit and the dependency forming. Until you want to stop.
22 days sober for me today, please god make it the last time I have to go through those withdrawals to get to this point, never been so happy, really honestly haven't.Jo 8/30

Good morning all
Can an old face sneak quietly back in??:o
Had some very tough things going on lately and have noticed my drinking going up slightly and want to nip it in the bud. You guys are the only ones I know who kick my !!!!! for me.
When I'm going through tough times I tend to withdraw into my shell. So apologies if I've lost track of anyone. Looking forward to catching up. Thats if you still want me

Good morning,
After 34 days of af'ness I am starting to experience more settled sleeping patterns and am waking up feeling rested and ready to face the day. I have another 8 days or so of anti b's to go so the real challenge is yet to begin.
I am going to draw up an action plan to hopefully help resist the urge to drink once they are finished. This will mean a change of routine for the late afternoons and early evenings when the bells ring the loudest.
Meanwhile,
Pen please put me down for 2 in the Mon - Thurs challenge.
Shaggy 8 so far for November please.
