Thanks Graeme, If I'm honest I know that I do have a drink problem because it shouldnt be this hard to have a few nights drink free.
Once I've done the 3rd day its so much easier and after 2 weeks I dont even think about it anymore. So why do I even bother having a drink again.
For me it was alcoholism. I could stop, but just not stay stopped.I keep thinking dont drink alcohol, your just poisening yourself. Why do I want to drink poisen!! but I still do it.
For me (again) it is alcoholism. I am drawn to pour alcohol down my neck, whether I want to or notCan I ask you Graeme do you still struggle some days, or is it easier as time goes by?
I do ocaasionally have drinking thoughts - though I am alcoholic so it would be odd if I never had them.
I don't struggle with them though, they are fleeting and gone quickly. In the past the obsession would build up.
It does get easier for me as I keep changing and growing.
If all I do is stop drinking, then I get relief from some of the symptoms of alcoholism. I no longer have hangovers, wet the bed, feel sick, etc
I would still get the cravings and obsession and eventually would drink again.
Because I have had to change myself, I get recovery from alcoholism, which is very different to relief from alcoholism.
Thus when I get drinking thoughts, I dismiss them after 20 seconds or so.
Having said that, if I kept hanging around in pubs, with other active alcoholics, and looking at wine deals in supermarkets, I am sure that I would get more drinking thoughts.
That's why just stopping drinking was never going to be enough for me. I had to change so I no longer had the DESIRE to drink. Then the struggle goes quickly. To do that, I had to admit I am alcoholic, and get honest with myself.0 -
Jo can you put me down for Sunday please
I feel rough this morning. I was pleased with myself last night for only having 3 drinks. Unfortunately it was 3 completely different ones (only a glass of each) and I cannot mix them. My head is really telling me off this morning. Just for further punishment I did the fortnightly shop in Mr T's and it was packed
Hopefully I can have a quiet day now. Have a good Saturday all, Pen xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

Please don't let a silly misunderstanding put you off this thread, you were making good progress and seemed to benefit from joining in.
Whatever was said was not of your making and there is no reason for you to stay away. So please, if you found it helpful to be here give [STRIKE]us[/STRIKE] me another chance.
Yeah, what she said.graemecarter wrote: »

Not AF tonight but well within the government guidelines. Too tired to be honest.

Good morning everybody,
I,m now into my 5th week of af'ness and for the 1st time I actually managed a good nights sleep last night. I was beginning to think it wasn't worth the struggle but a few more good nights will convince me. So here's hoping.
Jo 2 for the weekend challenge please.
Shaggy 6 for November thanks.
Hope everyone is OK this morning, Take care.
