  • Aw HB thought you would have been on the mend by now! ((hugs))

Sim glad you are feeling brighter and 4 days is a very good start! I must look up that book...

Just been out to Aldi for a couple of things I forgot off my tesco shop and took DS to the park for an hour to burn off some energy! Got a tonne of housework to get through today :( Had a pang of desire to drink tonight when I saw a lonely forgotten can of lager in the fridge but reminded myself I am only on day one and I AM NO QUITTER!!!!
  • Hope the dreams don't last too long Jo - sounds scary!!

Just a quick thought, dunno if anyone has already mentioned this on the thread but I have found a really useful tool (someone on another forum posted it) it is called Drinking Diary (www.drinkingdiary.com) I have started one and it is quite motivational :D You simply enter what you have drunk (or not drunk) each day and it gives you colour coded squares a bit like a reward chart, hope it might be useful for someone :)

Nice link :D thank you - nice to see a few good AFD boxes :) Jo we are the ying and yang of life it would seem.

I am hoping the French folk behave and my life isn't indirectly disrupted too much.

    HB hugs

Ohh, pooor pooor HB. Have they given you anything except a name for your pain?

Hugs hun, hope you feel better soon.

Shaggy, that's 6 for me please. I got out the door with my coat on and headed up the road to buy wine and then turned around and came home.

Really inspiring and eventful weekend I missed on here.

Sleep well everyone. Hope your day went well Sue?

I have vile cough-type medicine. It's ok, it's not as bad as it sounds, I just can't breathe properly as I keep coughing (or should that be the other way round?) & I can't really talk!

Well done for not buying the wine :T

Good Morning Ladies and Gents :)

Hope this finds you all well and happy.

HB - Sorry to read you've been poorly. Big Hug! x

Having spent Wednesday 6th - Thursday 14th October drinking almost solidly, I'm now on my fourth sober day.

Even though I'm very annoyed with myself for wasting an obscene amount of money (which had been earmarked for paying off debts), and making myself very ill (the shakes were the worst yet), I'm now trying to hoist myself up by the bootstraps.

The guilt / self - loathing are immense and I feel a bit lost looking at all the f*ck up's I've made because of drink.

Every time I've drank things have gone wrong - hurting girlfriends, friends and family, losing jobs, nearly losing my flat, debts, ill health, and if I carry on, a slow but sure descent into madness, homelessness, and death.

On a lighter note, having applied for a job about three weeks back, I've now got an online / telephone interview tomorrow :)

Am off back to carry on reading my book now, which was recommended on here by 365days and Jo - It's called 'No Big Deal' by John Coats. A cracking read, and a huge help these past few days.

A day at a time guys,

    Loads of Love,

    Sim x

My first priority in life is keeping myself sober.
Without sobriety, I'd lose my job, partner, money, family, friends, etc
Eventually my health and my life would go.

Every time bad things happened to me alcohol was involved. Not every time I drank did bad things happen, but when there was pain, chaos, misery, broken promises and wasted opportunities, alcohol was present.

That's why I need to put sobriety first.
I need to be honest with myself and ask myself if I am really doing what I can to stay away from the grog.
If I am not being honest with myself, then I am being dishonest with my children, partner, family, colleagues, etc

I am sure many of us on here have smoked. I bet that very few, if any, wishes we were still smoking.
That's the same with alcohol. When it's gone AND the desire to drink has left you, you don't want to go back there.
That's why I need to do something every single day to stay healthy and sober. I need to be the me I am now, not the person I was then. It takes a little work, but the rewards are enormous.
