    Which bit of:
Hi my son has just received a prison sentence and his wife is trying to cancell his mobile phone contract

is not trying to get out of the contract? If you are not trying to get it of it, what are you trying to achieve?

Is your son likely to be out before the phone account is out of contract?

Vodafone (note correct company name) might drop his account down to a lower tariff or move it to a PAYT tariff for the remainder of the term.

If your daughter has the same attitude with Vodafone that you have on here, then I'm really not surprised that they seem unwilling to help.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

Not my problem and nor is it hers. It is your sons.

He has no grounds to cancel the contract. Fact.

He can pay each month as normal, or he can pay the early termination fee. If he is unable to pay then it will affect his credit score and the early termination fee will be passed to a debt collector (not bailiffs). That is how the 'real world' (your own words) works.

Have any of you asked they to suspend the contract for x months? They might do that.

And what door will the debt collectors be banging on hers ,well no because its nothing to do with her as you say ,maybe the prisons .dont think so.As i said in the begining she is going through hell at the moment which from your replys you realy dont seam to understand .Dont think debt collectores at her door will help her one bit.Afraid prison doesnt pay enough to pay each month ,and believe it or not you cant get a loan either or did you think he could.

Nobody will say what you want to hear, so it is pointless. I have actually made suggestions and asked questions throughout this thread but you are unwilling to help yourself or listen, so I give up.

And to be quite frank, people with an attitude like yours deserve no help or sympathy either on here or from Vodafone.

Attitude developes from some of the people you talk to on forums im affraid ,and no she doesnt maybe after being on hear with one or two of you she would .Most of the time she sits head in hands wondering where she is going to turn next .
I came on hear hopeing to get some help and advice which from some i have had.
From others usually the ones who spend there days sitting on hear you know them usually have the most posts, they make us look like we are just trying to con our way out of paying a contract not so.We have a real problem with paying ,would try smaller fee per month Voda not interested apart from winning the lottery no other option.
So you see no atitude when i started this thread but will admit i have some now .
Will make this my last post as i canot see any usefullness comeing from any more posts.
As i said before thanks to the ones who have helped ,to the others who take pleasure in other peopls grief good hunting.
  • Maybe if they let my son out of prison for the day he could sort it out ummm no they wont do that, urm maybe Vodaphone could phone him in prison no that dont happen ,maybe he could phone vodaphone from prison no only allowed 2 numbers unfortunately vodaphone aint one of them.
So when Vodaphone phone the only number they have for him who picks up the phone NO NOT HIM guess who (did you want a minute or 2 to think about it).
There opening line could we speak to Mr
,her answere is he is in prison ,them but he hasnt paid his bill this month, her i have told you 20 times he is in prison and i want to cancell his phone as i cant afford to pay, them can you get him to call us ,no he is in prison, them but he hasnt do you realy need me to go on or have you got the picture.Try it some time your answeres may then be more constructive.

You are actually allowed more than 2 numbers from prison...but that is besides the point. If he speaks to staff in the prison they will be able to help him make contact and resolve this issue. Depending on sentence length he may only be able to put contract on hold rather than cancel, but something will be able to be done.
Please note however he will need to have the phone returned if they do allow him to cancel as it will no longer be his property (this is assuming it was a free/discounted phone because of the contract he took out - ignore me if this is not the case!).

Firstly, your son is the only person who can resolve this as the account holder. He will need to write to Vodafone (again) and state that he understands that he owes money on his account, but that at this present time he is unable to pay due to his circumstances. He should ask Vodafone to freeze his account and to not sell the debt on. He should say that on his release from prison (he should include something that indicates when this will be) that he will be happy for Vodafone to contact him (give a phone number/address) to set up a payment plan to pay off this debt.

He should also ask that until he is in a position to resolve this problem, Vodafone should cease trying to make contact demanding the bill be paid.

You should also advise your daughter in law that when and if Vodafone do call, she calmly and politely state that Mr X is no longer residing here, and to not call again. There's absolutely no point in her getting annoyed or trying to convince Vodafone of what is happening, and it really isn't her business to. If they try to argue with her about it, tell her to simply repeat that he is no longer living at this address, and to please not call again, and hang up. If they keep calling, tell her to try and keep her cool, and simply repeat that same thing again. If Vodafone ask for an address of where they may reach Mr X, I'd say by all means given them the Prison address. That might finally kickstart them into action!
