Cancelling a Vodaphone contract

Hi my son has just received a prison sentence and his wife is trying to cancell his mobile phone contract. She has no money coming in but Vodaphone insist it will cost her £200 to cancell as contract is not very old ,
I am sure most Vodaphone employees dont live in the real world as they keep asking to speek to my son as his contract has not been paid ,even though my daughter in law tells them he is in prison they still insist on wanting to talk to him .
Any ideas on what she can do we are pensioners and she is penniless at the moment.

Thanks ahead Bill

The drones in the call centres will be reading from scripts.

Give them the number of the prison he's currently residing in? has he still got the phone?

You need to take something into a Voda store to prove he's received a prison sentence.

Under the data protection act they have to speak to the acc holder and over the phone there's no way anyone could prove what she's saying.
  • She needs to escalate the problem to someone higher up the food chain than the customer service reps whose training is focused on the average day-to-day issues and nothing more. I'm not sure what can be done but she's more likely to get a clearer idea of how she stands by asking to speak to a section manager.

  • But still Post # 3 would be a block re: data protection. All she can request voda is to freeze the account till a/c holder is out to speak to voda.

which surely is better than stumping up an early termination fee.

There are ways when the acc holder is very unavailable.

If the op goes to a store with proof, the store can fax it to the right dept to get it sorted.

No wishes he had ,he wrote to Vodaphone from prison but they still insist it is an early termination and demand £200

Not much help, but why would it be any other way? The change in circumstances are not Vodafones fault, therefore the contract is still valid?

Very true but not his wifes fault either ,afraid prison does not allow you enough money to pay mobile phone bills, and as his wife is strugling to get any money from the goverment(prob is she was born in the UK) hardly got enough to feed her we are doing what we can ,not enough to pay the contract let alone £200 setlement fee .
She is going through hell at the moment without all this crap from Vodaphone.
