Terrified of birth

Well here I am Pregnant, but still terrified of birth. I am so terrified that basically I really wasnt going to have children, how am I going to do it? The fear is bad, and may be one of the reasons I am not sleeping,
Looking in to hypnobirthing and have ordered the books.
Also hate hospitals, the thought of an epidurial scares me too, gas and air, had a bad reaction in the dentists once, so not looking good!
Want to go to a birthing centre rarther than a hospital.

Pawpurrs, please don't be scared. Do you have a good community midwife you ca talk to about this? I am a midwife, used to work in the community, now work in a unit. I look after women day in day out, and lots are scared just like you.
pm me if you want a longer chat about this. :-)0 -
I had a very strong fear of childbirth and used to feel so anxious when anyone discussed it that I used to get a nose bleed
I also thought a hospital would be a scarier place and so for me the resolution was a homebirth.
I just wondered if this was something you had considered?
For me, being in my own house was tremendously comforting. It was not a place where bad things happen in my mind, it was just my home!
I'm very happy to post relevant links/say more about my experiences if you would find that at all helpful.
Hugs and congratulations for you

The little chap or lady will need to come out at some point.....
I was petrified with my first baby but you body will take over make sure someone you love/ trust is with you and YOU WILL BE FINE
Dont read too much you will only freak yourself out more....
If your really lucky it will only be a few hours or labour... then you will have a baby in your arms and will be able to forget about the whole thing
I had a 'natural' birth and a c section for my twins - both went well.
I wish you lots of luck and such a speedy birth you wont have time to panic

pawpurrs, sorry I just spotted the abreaction to G and A.
You may find that this is because the ratio of the two gases is quite different in a dental setting.
The ratio your dentist used should be in your notes and you can request sight of these.
Entonox used in labour is 50:50 gas to air.

Congratulations!
It's perfectly normal to be scared.
However, don't forget that despite the fear, lots of women have babies every day. And there are plenty of families with more than one child, so it can't be that bad. (I have 3)
Hypnobirthing is fantastic. Great that you have already ordered the books, but also try the cds. I had the natal hypnotherapy one, which was only about £16. It is fantastic to help you get to sleep, & each time you listen to it it reinforces the positive messages. Also, look into the courses.
Babies don't have to be born in hospitals. Nor do you have to have an epidural.
Talk to your midwife, & see if you can register with your local birth centre. Whilst you may change your mind later, if you register now, you might be able to see the midwives in the birth centre rather than the hospital, which is a much nicer & calmer enviroment (& usually involves far less waiting around too)0 -

water births are amazing. I will never forget my babies swimming up to meet me.
You will find room if you want to have one at home. Move the dining table/coffee table/tv into the garden, neighbours house etc.0
