NUS for £10...

Its a bit absurd, £10 for an NUS card.... I remember when it was only a £1... and yes the discounts here are ok, but when students first start uni - wishing away another tenner is a tough one.
From books, a USB sticks, folders, welcome drinks, the student flat basics, TV license etc etc... leave freshers and indeed returning students with nothing.
Ok rant over,

Had to pull out of the "Money for Nothing Challenge" workload has just proved to much...

wow! When I was in Uni I didn't even have to pay for mine! I got my last one in 2004, but £10 is a big jump in 2 years!0

Mine was free in previous years too, never had to pay £1! Not sure whether to pay a tenner.
Fresher's was lousy for us this year, got 2 free piggy banks, 2 free calculators and a pen.0 -
I have to pay £10 for mine. Its free in some unis, but not mine. Also kept an eye out in Freshers Fair for freebies... didnt get anything apart from leaflets and advertisments. :'(0

i cant believe they are making you pay whatever next the NUS card was the best part of being a student i never had to pay it was great for cheap pizza hut, cinema, nights out and loads of stuff !! i just dont know why they try and make everything more difficult for students these days i loved uni it was brilliant fun and now it sounds so difficult, good luck i do hope they start to give students more it really spoils everything when it is so costly (i was lucky enough to leave with only a small overdraft and that was hard enough at the time yet that is unheard of now everyone owes thousands and it is not an exciting prospect anymore)0

The only thing at Freshers this year for us was a few free pens, a carton of cotton buds and a few lollipops, also forgot to add a very, very small can of Sure deodrant.0

at my uni NUS is printed on the student id card, but nusextra costs £10 and i decided to stump up the tenner.0

I'll stick to a snap fax this year I think!
Many chains seem to operate their own student discount cards anyway. PC World (10%) and Virgin (10%) to name two.0 -
Is this not the NUS extra card which cost a tenner?0
