  • Which scientific theory exactly suggests that something comes from nothing?
It certainly wasn't Newton's first law of thermodynamics...

I also follow common sense and logic. I recognise that something cannot come from nothing
So where did your god come from?
that the intelligent cannot evolve from the unintelligent
Where is the common sense and logic in that statement?
and that the goo, to zoo to you scientific theories are irrational, especially when you look around and see the beauty, complexity and wonder of creation.
Would I be right in guessing that you are a literal creationist?
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

FYI, most people who are Jewish (including myself) don't actually like being called 'a jew'... its a bit like asking someone what colour an african-american is, and they tell you they are 'a black'. Call us Jewish please. If you want to be hip, sometimes we'll refer to one another as 'wej' or 'one of the tribe'

I'd like to put the use of the term (jew) down to not thinking before unleashing the fingers onto the keyboard :) I've done it myself many times in the past and always regret it.

    Take care.

Sorry i didn't realise. You've got to be so careful nowadays, which i normally am, so i'm mortified that i made that mistake (a genuine one).

  • Richard Dawkins is my god!

i am atheist. i feel that many religious people are apt to think that atheists don't experience the 'wonder of creation', yet I find creation all the more miraculous and marvelous for knowing (sort of!) how it works and how it all came about - much more so than if i believed it was created wholesale by some deity.

also, i think it's possible to be christian with a small c. i.e. i don't believe that Jesus was the son of god, as i don't believe in god, yet i think he spoke a lot of sense, and i try to live as 'good' a life as possible, not because i'm scared i'll burn in hell if i don't, but because i believe that morally it's the right thing to do.

The option of Jesus being a good guy who spoke a lot of sense simply isn't available. He claimed he was God, "I am the truth, the light and the life nobody comes to the father but through me". He healed the sick and cast out demons. If He wasn't who He said He was that makes him out to be a cruel hoaxer. You don't want to be worshipping someone who claims to save you from the justice of our eternal creator God by taking the punishment you deserve for your sin if He can't. You have to decide if what He said was true, that's the point. If He is the third person of the Trinity who has lived throughout eternity Father, Son and Holy Spirit in a continuous out pouring of Love and created mankind to celebrate, worship and share that Love. From this foundational Truth we get to enjoy, discover and examine His creation. Scientific theories have not and cannot uncover the mystery of Creation, the goo to zoo to you theories are as nonsensical as they seem.

So, what about all us non-believers who just think he was a bloke trying to do some good, rather than the son of a deity?

As some might say, he's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy

Don't you think that atheists can have morals, for the sake of being nice to people, not just because of a heavenly reward?
  • I've always thought of myself as an Atheist but feel that religion does have an important part to play in our society. I went to a Christian school and was loosely brought up in a Christian household but my parents also valued the importance of freedom of choice with religion so a particular religion was not imposed upon me from a young age.

My big problem with the Christian religions at the moment, which to me are the most important in the UK, is that they are so backward thinking. I have visited my local church recently and I was the only person under 60 there so I really wonder how it can survive once this generation has passed. I do not understand how the Christian religions can really expect people to believe the bible as a given and without questioning it. I would be far more likely to have an interest in a Christian religion if the stance was that the bible is a great book, written by man, that contains a lot of fables that can teach us important lessons. There is such overwhelming evidence that scientists have provided us with to the contrary of the bible that to wholeheartedly believe it's teachings seems rather naive and nonsensical. Throughout the ages there has been constant battles between the church and scientists but I believe that it is the time for the Church to acknowledge how important and fast developing science is and embrace it.

If the Church can convince people of the stories of Noah and Adam and Eve then I'm sure they can find a way of incorporating the big bang into their teachings...

    Please read..

God exists and this proof is Nobel Quran. Holy Quran have several Scientific Miraculous.

    Big Bang:

"A new start forming out of a cloud of gas and dust (nebula), which is one of the remnants of the "SMOKE" THAT WAS THE ORIGIN OF THE WHOLE UNIVERSE" [The Space Atlas, Hearther and Hencest, page 50]

1500 years Ago Allah Almighty says this in Holy Quran:

"Then He(God) turned to the Heaven when it was SMOKE..." [Quran, 41:11]

Only Islam claims that the universe was originated from Dust, and Hot Gas, or Smoke!

Its really interesting to know that the Big Bang Theory suggest that the Universe is still expanding until today, because this is EXACTLY what Allah Almighty also claimed in Holy Quran:

"And the firmament, We constructed with power and skill and and verily WE ARE EXPANDING IT" [Quran, 51:47]

The word "Samaa" was used for "firmament". "Samma" as I mentioned above means either "heaven", or "Universe" depending on how it is used. Certainly, the meaning word "Samma" in Quran 51:47 is "Universe"

So here its mentioned about the Universe.

Note: In Quran God referred Himself as "We" its plural royality.

See >> "verily WE ARE EXPANDING IT(Universe)" [Quran, 51:47]

According to Big Bang Theory and Modern Science the Universe still Expanding! Allah Almighty says it 1500 years ago in Holy Quran!

    An important point:

God Almighty says in Quran: "And when the heaven splitteth asunder and becometh ROSY LIKE PAINT" [Quran, 55:37]

The explosion of galaxies are shaped like roses mentioned in Quran and confirmed by modern Science!

"It is HE who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) rotate, each other in their celestial spheres" [Quran 21:33 from Yushuf Ali]

"(God is) the one who created the night, the day, the sun and the moon. Each one is traveling in an orbit with its own motion" [Quran, 21:33]

"And the earth, moreover, hath He made egg shaped" [Quran, 79:30]

This verse in Arabic "Waal-arda baAAda thalika Dahaha" [Quran, 79:30]

Here Arabic word "Dahaha" is derived from "Dahhyah" which means "Egg"

The Arabic word for egg here is dahaha which mean an ostrich-egg. The shape of an ostrich-egg resembles the geo-spherical shape of earth.

Thus the Quran correctly describes the shape of the earth, though the prevalent nation when the Quran was written revealed was that the earth flat. So Quran is truth.

Quran says Moonlight is reflected Light:

Science now tell us that the Light of the moon is reflected light. However this fact was mentioned 1500 years ago in Quran!

"Blessed is He Who made Constellations the skies, and placed therein a Lamp and a Moon giving Light." [Quran, 25:61]

"See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, And made the moon a (reflecting) light in their midst, and made the sun as a Glorious Lamp?" [Quran, 71:15-16]

"Did you see how Allah created seven heavens, and and above the other, and made in them the moon a light and the sun a Lamp?" [Quran, 78:12-13]

The Quran distinguishes between them by the use of different terms: Light (Noor) for the Moon, and Lamp (Siraaj) for the Sun.

In Arabic word Noor mean: "be revealed, TO RECEIVE LIGHT, to be lighted"

This is clearly mean reflecting to light, because it RECEIVES LIGHT FROM SUN and it is lighted and revealed by it.

"It is He who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon be a light (of beauty)." [Quran, 10:5 from Yushuf Ali]

Why Quran not says moon also a shining glory unto sun? The verse have clear difference between sun and moon lights. This mean He created the sun with its shining light, and the moon with its reflected light.

Now we know moon have no lights and its the reflected light from sun. Quran says same 1500 years ago.

"Do the unbelievers not realize that the heavens and the earth were Joined together, then I clove them asunder and I MADE EVERY LIVING THING OUT OF WATER" [Quran, 21:30]

This is a dramatic affirmation of the modern idea that the origin of life is aquate. Now we know Cytoplasm 95% is water.

    Botany:

Progress in botany at the time of Muhammad(pbuh) was not advanced enough in any country for scientists to know that PLANTS HAVE BOTH MALE AND FEMALE parts, Nevertheless, we may read the following in the Quran:

"(God is the one who) sent down rain from the sky and with it brought forth a variety of plants in pairs" [Quran, 20:53]

Today we know that fruits comes from plants that have sexual characteristcs even when they come from unfertilized flowers, LIKE BANANAS. In the Quran we read the following:

"...And of all fruits (God) placed (on the earth) TWO PAIRS.." [Quran, 13:3]
    Source(s):
Now See what God Almighty says:

"We will show them(humans) OUR SIGNS IN THE UNIVERSE and INSIDE THEIR SELVES, until it will become quite clear to them that it is truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your LORD that He is a witness over all things" [Quran, 41:53]

Many people easily can understand the truth, even by "ONLY ONE SIGN" but we also have many people among of us who will never accept the truth, even if we give them thousands of proof! As God Almighty says about those peoples:

"Deaf, dumb and blind, they will not return to the path" [Quran, 2:18]

I don't quite understand how "A. Not practising - 3,142 votes (21 %)" can be grouped with 'no religion' in the tips email summary.

By definition, 'not practising' signifies those with a belief/faith who do not 'practise' (i.e. attend religious services).

It does not necessarily equate to a lack of religion or religious beliefs as (for the purposes of this poll) that would fall under categories K/L.

You could argue that everyone has a religion if you take the definition that it is a set a fundamental beliefs through which you see your life. The Bible explains how we all know God, "For His invisible attributes, namely His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made so they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20). We all want to be our own god, so we craft religions and worship false gods like sex, family, success, science and our beauty.

It is plain that we cannot save ourselves, there is nothing we can do to merit our salvation as the world's religions would have us believe. They say behave like this, be moral, follow these rules and our god will love you, which is a lie. That is why God came into human history as the man Jesus. He came in humility, worked with His step-dad Joseph out in the heat of the Middle East sun learning a trade. He lived the sinless life that you and I could not live, and we cruelly tortured and murdered Him. The great news is that He conquered the grave and rose again to new life, witnessed by up to 500 people and established His church on earth.

And now world history revolves around this penniless, itinerant preacher, who was betrayed by a friend, abandoned and crucified between two thieves has stemmed the greatest love story that ever will be of God loving His children to the point of suffering and death and promising them new life by turning to Him in faith. Jesus Christ is alive and saving people from destruction as testified by people from across all the nations of the earth. This is great news that no matter your culture, creed, religion, ethnicity or family He loves you beyond all measure and you can spend today and the all of eternity sheltering in His love, protection and justice. Have a great day.
