  • If the question is "what religion are you?" why isn't there simply a box for Christian? Anglicanism and Catholicism are not religions, they are denominations within the Christian faith! The Muslim faith was not split up into Shi'ite and Sunni was it? Sadly, I think the pope was correct in implying that this is a secular country.
  • Crazy mixed-up but non-enforced Christian background and parentage.
    Never believed in God.
Have had experience of Wicca years ago.
On my good days I'm a Buddhist, other days I admire it but can't quite live up to it.

Of course you can't live up to it, that's the thing with religions that teach the false lesson that somehow you can work hard to earn enlightenment. With Buddhism you chant enough and follow the teachings of the Buddha and you can reincarnate and so on. Or with Islam you pray to Mecca five time a day, learn Arabic go on Haj and you'll merit your salvation.

Jesus Christ came to do away with religions, he called the religious folk hypocrites, fools and liars. There is nothing you can do or need to do to get your Father in Heaven to love you, He already does. The work, effort, struggle was undertaken at the cross, the price paid and the justice faced. You'll never be good enough, you'll always fall short yet He is the God of Love, the father to the fatherless; not a distant God, disconnected from us who we have to please through our ridiculous religions but a connected God who came into human history to be with us, to love us so that we might, through our own free will, love one another. He said,"love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life or his friends." He laid down his life for you, now that's good new!

Whilst attempting at promoting Christianity is fine, you don't need to do so by undermining and ridiculing other philosophisies. That's p-poor marketing strategy. Buddhism is not about earning enlightenment and definitely nothing at all about reincarnation, neither is Islam about just praying five times a day and no compusions about going on a Haj. There's nothing false about these teachings but there is in people's understanding it and their interpretations of it, as is evident in your post.

and I can't even begin to say how offended and embarassed I'm to read that Jesus Christ called people hypocrites, fools and liars

Man has always known that there is a 'higher spiritual being' from day 1
God created man in his own image and gave us rules by which to abide by.
Man disobeyed and was all but wiped out (even the man-made religions inclusive of the Catholic one go along with this).
God (his name maybe in English) got around to once again giving man a 'way out' from destruction by sending part of himself (Jesus) to die for us as opposed to wiping the whole earth once more.
Believe he died for your own many rotten self sins and at least try daily to change our ways... asking forgiveness from him (Jesus as he himself said that there was only ONE mediator between he and God his father and that was through him, NO one else contrary to what some man-mad religions have said since) and reading his book (Bible) and praying.
The ''non believers'' in their quieter moments KNOW that there is a 'God'
The book says something like 'it's a fool that says there is no God.'
It also says After Death.... The Judgement.

This next time he's coming with a Strong hand ... not as some meek forgiving person as in the Book of John.... and it'll all kick off there in Jerusalem, summit to do with The Temple which is buried beneath that moslem mosque. :A
Big Bang ... would be a destructive, ever increasing bad thing so no way a 'creator' would use that method as he'd create it 'all' perfect and we still have sludge with one-cell organisms which do not multiply and jump to animal life... ever.
Please bear in mind that many, many scientists actually believe in God/Jesus and know about said silly ideas about Darwin and his 'hypothisis' (guess-work to you and I) and see it as folly.
Darwin himself got back around to believing in God on his own death bed.
Acht, i'm getting boring now so I'll shut up.

ps; remember 'Christianity as written in that book ... is a way of life ... NOT religion as main churches teach ...

    Sleep well :rotfl:

I've said my bit ;) (no slight intended, don't get all mad with me)

I shall not get mad and I would fight for you and your beliefs. However, please do not try to tell me what I should believe or not believe. This is where I do have a problem with organised religion.

    Thank you.

  • The Gospels are eyewitness accounts! Have you read them? Start with John and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you. You are like a blind man trying to understand the concept of colour, it is only with spiritual eyes that you can see the truth of God's Word. When you read the Bible have a look at Psalm 14 verse 1, you may identify yourself!!

Erm, actually I have been told by a C of E vicar and a Methodist minister (who happens to be a very good friend of mine) that the Christian bible is nothing but a load of metaphor and Chinese whispers. Please note this has come from men of god.

    Take care.

  • However, you cannot ignore that you are an image bearer of your creator who came into human history as the man Jesus Christ in humility, to love and serve all humanity and conquered sin, death and hell.

Why not? I not only ignore this idea of yours , with the utmost respect for yourself, but I also 'personally' refute it.

    Take care.

Jesus called the Pharisees ' a brood of vipers' (Matthew 12.36) and referred to the priests as 'Blind Guides (Matthew 23:16). He referred to the Pharisees as hypocrites also in Mathew 23:14-15.

I always found it odd that the bible:
    1. has no 'author' list (and yes, i know the old testament was handed to Moses on mount Sinai if you believe Leviticus)
    2. Is not read in its original language to avoid misinterpretation
    3. Has no editorial history

But it's all true. of course

Sorry, I believe Jesus was probably a holy being but I don't believe in God. No amount of 'bible-thumping' will make me believe in that.

When I say 'can't live up to Buddhism', I mean that I have tried some of the instructions, they work, it is up to me to follow them in an everyday sense - to be a real 'inner being' and only take refuge in true refuges - I'm human, I hardly ever do.
There are some people who do however, I've met them, I aspire.

Also, you don't aspire to 'reincarnate' in Buddhism. You aspire to attain certain helpful reincarnations, or preferably to escape the cycle of birth and death altogether to help yourself and others.
